has anybody got the 2.8tdi motor and running 33"(285/75/16) tyres?
if so could you tell me if it has altered the cruising revs at highway speed.
i have 265/75/16 and it revs at 2750rpm at 100km/h. always seems to want to change to 6th gear! pity its only got 5 !!
just wondering if the larger tyres have any noticable effect on rpm's. tyres will be due a change next year.
cheers

The size change you're contemplating will drop about 100 rpm at 100km/h.

cheers Scott,
did you notice a difference in acceleration from take off, when you put yours on? i pull a 750kg camper and the td is pretty slow off the mark. still with the short diff ratio's there is plenty of cog swapping going on. dont want to find that the bigger tyres make the motor drop out of the power zone.

Yes, I need to be a fraction more careful with the clutch at takeoff, but it's become second nature, and not really a problem. I rarely tow with mine, and never anything heavy, so I can't comment on that.

From memory, Pajman once said he prefers the 265/75 for towing his camper, because the 285/75 make it harder to keep on the boil - but I think he's got the 3.5 DOHC.

Personally, I'd do it. A 2.8 Paj isn't a race car, and you are towing with it - your ET isn't critical.

Cheers,

Scott

A guy in my club runs 255/85/16 on his NL 2.8tdi and tows a full size Jayco van (with two extra water tanks) he also has a sub tank and long range tank, so I think yours should be fine. I run 32" mongrels on my NJ 2.8tdi with 290k on the clock and tow a 14' windup off road camper which weighs about 1300kg fully loaded and I can still sit on 100klm. Th mongrel sap a bit of power out of the pajero more than 33" muddies also my gps says 104 when the speedo reads 100.
Regards Glenn.

just on with checking the boost at the minute. got the gauge in and it looks like she is running about 9psi max boost. so there is room to tweek it up to about 13psi. this taken from the turbo to wastegate hose.
