I think my clutch is nearly due for replacement, what do people think of these clutches in a daily driver? 4.2 Turbo Diesel GQ. Are they smooth in operation, quiet/noisy, shudder etc. Any feedback appreciated from those using them.
Thanks.

We ran a Safari Tuff in our old comp GQ and after initial problems with mud and shiat inside the bellhousing it settled down well and we had some good success with it.
I had a Exedy Heavy Duty clutch fitted 3 1/2 years ago in my GQ when the original was getting tired. The Exedy has since given up the ghost and it will be probably be replaced with a Safari Tuff in the very near future due to the previous good experiences.

I put one in my NA TD42 GQ in April. After bedding in and 5000kms later, I couldn't be happier. No noisier than anything else (who can hear over the diesel anyway???). Nice smooth operation.
I use it as a daily driver in traffic, and weekend warrior.
I paid $525 for the kit from East Coast Autos in East Bentleigh.

I had the Tuff clutch fitted and it shuddered badly(flywheel was machined) the mechanic removed it and it went back to Exedy for inspection along with flywheel. A visual inspection was done and mech. was told nothing wrong never had a problem with the tuff clutches. Clutch and flywheel returned with a tuff clutch plate and a unity(next one down?) plate. New tuff clutch plate fitted shuddered again. Tuff clutch plate removed, unity plate fitted no shuddering. We were told that the tuff clutches have never had a shudder problem but had 2 shudder. The old clutch never shuddered just wore out and started slipping. I really wanted the tuff clutch but the shudder was terrible and not suited to a daily driver unfortunately. If it was a comp truck/toy only i might have lived with it and maybe it would have settled down?

i just had an extreme outback clutch fitted this week. I think it has 30% over standard clamping force but my pedal feels a lot better than when i had the pbr heavy duty in it. This clutch drives almost the same as standard, no vibration and doesnt slip. Havent used it offroad yet.

another thing to fit for good pedal feel is a braided clutch line have fitted a few and work really well.

Pedal feel was and is fine noise non-existent(the old clutch throwout bearing was noisy) but the tuff clutch shuddered. The unity plate was fitted no shudder, very frustrating as we told that the tuff clutch has never had any problems or shudder. The clutch now fitted uses the same pressure plate as the tuff clutch but a different clutch plate which we have been told will last just as long but is not as durable? This clutch drives very well is very quiet and good gear shifts shame it took 3 goes.

by not not
On my second safari tuff clutch and wont change for quids. Only advise is make sure the bellhousing is sealed as my first was not and after being stuck in some deep silty crap for over 4 hours it sucked in muck when it all cooled down and destroyed the clutch. Shouldnt feel any diffrent if you have the small booster on you clutch.
Love the idea on the braided line for the clutch
Will have to try that one

Just fitted one last week. At first was a little bit shuddery (a new word?). Have done 2000kms shudder is almost gone. Had flywheel machined AND balanced was tols this was very important.
Good Luck
