Cant Get More Fuel In our Pajero io ??

G'Day,
Has anybody had probs were you cant get more fuel in your tank? (other than vaper on hot days)...when you know damn well its not full??
Gauge shows 100% full but from almost emety it only took 32L and the tank holds 53L in total.
In the io it has a saddle type tank...filler on right and sender etc on left. There is a jet pump that works on the fuel return line and just pumps fuel from on side of the tank to the other.
My first guess is that fuel isnt going to the other side of the tank via jet pump ....but the guage is showing its full because the sender is on the far side of the filler....so for the gauge to be showing anything it must be getting fuel to show full
So now Im just plain confused
To give you an idea....went to Geelong and at 130km traveled the Gauge showed 1/2 a tank used
Im starting to think it must be the gauge or sender??
Or the wife just needs to keep the car running while refueling
I havent put any fuel cleaner or anything in yet
Any idea's please
