Safe Boost PSI

I am sure this has been mentioned before, but i am just curious to no some other peoples opions.

I currently am running a 2.8 diesel, with a after market turbo system. It is currently set to 7 PSI, and the lag is bloody shocking, however once its starts to pick up in the revs, about 2500 it flows real well,

Just wondering what PSI people are running there trucks at and also do they have alot of lag.

I am thinking of screwing up the boost but if this is a common prob i am not to concearned because the truck goes along real well, just a slug of at the lights. But this probably because I run 33's, anyway thanks.

ALso what size turbo back exhaust are people running, I currently have a 2 and a half, but am thinking of going a 2 and 3/4 straight threw

Mine is a DTS kit running 11psi, have been told by a few places that any or much more is bad for the ol' 3L motors.

It will never be great at the lights, but so long as it cruises well, that's more important for me anyway.

I run a 2 1/2 inch straight through exhaust from a 3" I think dump pipe, it's not to noisy in the cab, but it's a bit fart sounding from outside so a small hotdog style muffler wouldn't go astray.

I had a DTS kit on my old 2.4 and dissconected the waste gate so it boosted to what ever it liked :D never had a problem with it untill i rolled it and after putting it back on its wheels and pumping all the oil out,except i forgot about the intake tube that was running all the way under to the back of the truck :oops: with a pod filter behind the cab as a snorkel.
After starting She sucked all that oil though and reved her little head off
End result 2 melted pistons & precombustion chambers
head cracked between ever set of valves. :cry:
Now its a get boat ancher.....

The turbo may be too big for the engine. Was the turbo meant for the engine?

Sounds more like a fuelling issue to me. Does it have an aneroid fitted? What condition are the engine and fuel sysetm in?

I dont think the turbo or boost is the problem it sounds more like gearing.
You can lower the gearing but you wil then sacrifice highway performance.
If it goes good leave it alone.

it is a turbo glide kit for a hiux, so no i dont believe the turbo is to big, i have had it tuned and all the proper mods done, (its even got a mod plate)

It is great on the hioghway, apart from tyre noise, but who cares about that.

Would 10 PSI bee a safe setting, if I can screw it up yo this I think it will perform alot better, oh and I am going to fit a 2 and 3/4 puarter turbo back system so this may free it up a bit.

my safari kit runs 12psi all day long never had a problem its got a big front mount cooler though

hope your not planning on fitting a bleed valve to turn up the boost

tried it didnt do a thing

according to that you proberly don't have a boost compensator so you will be either overfueling when offboost or under fueling during boost. lack of fuel will cause it to lag. either use a 2lt fuel pump or get a compensator fitted (normally standard with kits).

also seeing that companies "1 hour" fitment time i suspect your running stock compression so don't go winding up the boost to much.
