super 1hz

hey i posted this on toyota section aswell but others may be interested in this site http://sprintex.linconline.net/files/Bl ... ulator.xls , it's a boost calculator but i'm not sure if it's acurate. It thinks if i supercharge my 1hz with 9lb's of boost i can make around 200kw can anyone confirm this, cos that seems a bit high to me.

If you had a petrol it would most likly give a really good indication. But since we are talking a 1hz. mmm I dont think so. But a 4.2petrol very possible.

I think it depends on the underlying engine. The old 250ci Falcon engine running 9psi? I'd be surprised. But the current XR6 with all it's high-tech wizardry makes 240kW with less than 9psi - albeit intercooled.

So I'd say it's not impossible, but it depends HEAVILY on the rest of the engine/induction configuration.

i think 9 pound breaks most petty motors. Don't most jap boxes run around 3-4?

But that's an engine that produces 185kW with natural aspiration. So a 50 odd kW increase is about 25%, along way from 100%. A chip change/re map can give 15%.

True. I hadn't looked at it that way. I was primarily thinking of 4 litre 6 cylinder petrol engines - there's engines, and there's engines.

Take the old carb-fed 4.1 cross-flow producing 80(?)kW and feed 9 psi? No way will it make 200kW.

The modern equivalent easily produces significantly more than 200kW with less than 9psi. But as you pointed out, it's not far from 200kW naturally aspirated.

200kW from a 1hz? I suppose it's possible - but not by simply bolting on a Sprintex.

i had a look a the site and read it was 35% which would take it too 130kw and 390nm approx. Which is what the new none intercooler 1h-dft

I have heard of some 1HZ getting about 150kW but I am unsure of what boost they are running, I won't push for that sort of power as the engine simply was not designed for it, ie oil and water galleries. I go so something that is going to be reliable and able to get up slight inclines without having to go back to third, something I'll be aiming for.

one of the latest editions of those 4wd magazines (was flicking through it at a news agency) had an article about a 4wd comp vehicle (a red GU ute claming to put out 225 kw at the rear wheels with its standard 4.2 diesel motor with an after market Garrett turbo on it? to for a 1hz to be able to handle that sort of power maybe?

A 1hz doesn't have the cooling to be able to produce these figures RELIABLY, sure you could probably run heaps of boost, intercooled with water injection and it would suit a comp truck that gets pulled down every couple of runs but as a DD it would prove more dramas then it's worth.

i always thought it was the nissan engines who suffered from over heating coz they normaly run on a higher temp?
