Im looking at putting a switch between my winch and the battery, but im not quite sure what sort of amps the winch pulls. I've got an 8000 warn high mount. Does anyone know what sort of amps they pull?

Thanks
Pete

Warn says 450A at 8000# (first wrap), I'd guess upwards of 500A at stall, once the motor gets nice and warm.

you really only need to isolate the solenoid triggers, they only draw a couple amps.

cheers

Yes you only need to put a switch in the active that feeds the remote plug. This way you are only switching the controll wires and not the load wires. Switching the load wires is only asking for trouble as you are switching HIGH amps.

Or just disconnect the heavy lead to the winch at the battery when not in use, only takes 2 seconds.

BTW- has anyone heard of people having there winch tampered with when parked in public ?

the only things i have heard about having winches tampered with was back in about 1990 in sydney some where, it happened like twice, where they wrapped the cable round the car and crushed it, it works with the 3 pin plug, but as far as i know it doesnt work with the 5 pin.

It happened in a car yard here some time ago, they ran the cable over the roof & wraped it around the towball bringing the roof down to the seats. :bad-words:

These people should be :2gunfire:

If you really wanty to have a High amp switch then go to a truck wrecker and get a batt isol sw off a prime mover ~500amps available.
