60 series g'box rebuild

hey all,
there's a chance that the gearbox in my old mans 85 petrol 60 series is stuffed and needs a rebuild.
as per usual it costs too much for them to get done. i was going to have a go at it myself.
So questions
if i have a manual, take lots of pics and vids of how it comes apart before and after, have a nice big workspace to lay it all out in order, is it a job that the average mechanically minded person can do?
Are there any tips or particularly hard bits that i will need to know, or is it a case of dismantle, change synchro rings, bearings etc and slip it all back together. Or is there bits that need checking with a dial guage, specific torquing up etc needing doing?
where can i get a decent manual for this gearbox?
is there anything i should get done while its apart?
Can anyone name a decent gearbox rebuilder in Ipswich who i can take it to when i ferck it up who won't be a prick about me having a go myself.
Any suggestions how i get the bugger out from under the car
cheers all
