)
I asked if there was a locker for an F78 Rocky... I got this in reply
hi,this model was never available. however have some overseas interest latly so it may happen. have put on list to advise if ever happens tom
So, if any, particularly F78 owners want some Lokka Lock-Rites... I suggest you email
tom@4wdsystems.com.au
I'm not sure if it is for F78 only... or older models as well...
Bundy.. can you help us out with diff compatibility??

I inquired with TJM last week and got this in reponse to asking about a Pro Locker for the Rocky:
Hi Nick thanks for your email inquiry I am just replying regarding equipment for your Daihatsu. Firstly as far as a Pro Locker goes at the moment we don't have one available but in the future we may look at doing one.
Some people may finally be realising how good the Rockys are

Without wanting to be negative.....
Given the small numbers of them remaining on our roads (and the fact they are no longer produced) I wouldn't like the chances of any company suddenly deciding to tool up for Rocky lockers. At least not without you having to spend big $$$ for a special low volume run.

My thoughts....
They stopped making them- if something was selling then you wouldn't stop making it.
Therefore, there probably aren't many out there as they didn't sell!

Not a big fan of Auto-lockers. Plan to go the Air locker option, given time. If that fails, maybe a second hand lsd centre for the rear at least (rare as rocking horse doo doo, i know).
Cheers anyway.

Wooooaaaaahhhhh been a while since I have cruised THIS forum! You guys are still talking about the same stuff that the old Aus WARFS guys were talking about. Now I am reaching back into the foggy memories of about 2000, when there were a heap of us running about looking for lockers.
As I recall Mike H, the guru of Daihatsu looked very long and hard into the options for his Feroza and he included the Rocky's in his emails. he cited the WARFS site and a few others. Offered his own vehicle as a test bed, I may be wrong but there were some movements on that front by ARB. However the end result of all this work and enquiries were...not enough interest, not enough capital and a market that was not big enough or lucrative enough to tool up the production line.
A mass email was sent out and people were asked if they would email this bloke or commit to a certain expense and still no movement.
So the end result after allot of hard work was a negative. A few people in Australia had some lockers in the front, but they were the minority and generally something found in imported gear from the US and Malaysia/Phillipines. Most people who wanted diffs then went to a Mike special CIG diff after he trialled it on his Feroza.
I had an F75RV and I made some enquiries after the very same ad that Troy sent out and I was informed that they did not stock the lokkers because of a lack of interest and also a market. (Started to see a commmon thread after this.)
So those of us who had rockies struggled on to no avail till eventually we all threw up our hands in disgust and moved on to other cheaper to maintain vehicles with more gear. (Mike got a Surf, I got a Hilux, Troy went through a MK and 4Runner, Shane went to doof doof show cars, Mark went to a Disco and then a Cruiser, Mad Dog went to a Hilux and then an 80 and I think Murray still has his Ferwoaza...apologies if I forgot anyone.) For most of us, the arrival of families and changes in locations also dictated vehicles. I live in the alpine belt and needed a ute for wood carting amongst other ute only activities.
The simpla fact was that even though there was a glut of equipment for Daihatsu comparatively speaking in the US and also the Phillipines/Malaysia, that is because the vehicles sold better there. Rocky's were never the hot seller that they hoped, compared to other vehicles. Feroza's sold well, but they sold to a certain market, which was not that interested in modifying it beyond some seat covers, maybe a steering wheel and an air freshener hanging from the rear vision mirror.
So seven years on from when I bought my Rocky what has happened? Daihatsu has all but pulled out of Australia, people are still trying to get modifications for a vehicle that was never a big seller and eventually people move on. Not meaning to rain on your parade guys and I salute you for the effort your putting in, making an old Rocky owner proud, however like our attempt, you will strike one major hurdle. You're dealing with corporations and their primary motivation for anything is fiscal and as long as Daihatsu's make a minority market, they will not tool up. Sorry.
Anyway, keep it rubber side down and dirty.
Muddy.

Guessing you realise that there isnt either an air locker, or auto locker that is for sale now to fit rocky diffs. If you can find the detroits for rocky diffs second hand (rare as hens teeth) then maybe. The daihatsu LSD is useless anyway, would only be a waste of time. Options are really either weld the suckers, or do a diff swap.
Layto....

Yeah, dont bother looking for a LSD centre, they arn't that special

Yeah lay80n, I was aware of the difficulty (impossability) of sourcing a pre-made locker for the rocky, thats why I plan to make my own...
I have had discussions with a local guy who makes air lockers for landcruisers, landrovers, etc, etc and he has offered to give me some help with the construction of one for my rocky. He claims his units to be superior to other more common (shall be left nameless) brands. This is yet be seen, but im willing to give it a go.
All I need is a diff to start measuring and playing with.
If it is sucessful/reliable I MAY consider making some for other people. Thats a big "may" because I don't have heaps of spare time to spend in the shed churning these things out. I would like to have something working within the next 12 months but im not making promisses as life is to unpredictable.
Axle swaps have there advantages and disadvantages.
For this type of vehicle I personally wouldn't do it, but thats just my 5 cents.
I am one of those (possibly strange) people who likes to keep things in as close to the original form as possible... from the outside at least
There is something about letting people pre-judge something they know nothing about, then sticking it two them when you leave in a cloud of dust...
Like a stock standard looking commodore/falcon that actually has a blown V8 under the hood...Or a highly turboed cruiser or the like that would see the little boy racers put back in there place.
Cheers
