As stated by the Subject line - I am in the market for a passenger side head and if need be a drivers aswell. I would prefer to purchase a passengers side only and have it matched to the other as there was considerable work done to the heads on the last rebuild.
Seeing the motor has only done 30 thousand k's I am pretty pi$$ed at the moment and will not go into technicalities as there may be action taken at a later date.
If anyone has a "spare" that they are willing to part with or know of a "REPUTABLE" place to purchase another preferably around Sydney I would be keen to know.

Car has been back on the road now for a couple of weeks after having the heads removed and rebuilt (agian).
The passenger side head had to be replaced after 30 thousand due to internal damage in the head. After chasing an overheating problem for a couple of weeks the engine oil started to show signs of water, the heads were removed and the head gaskets were found to be 100% OK. Upon closer inspection the passenger side head was found to have an impression of a 12mm nut punched into it right underneath one of the cam lobes ( the nut however was never found???????). It appears that the guys who rebuilt the engine may have left a nut in the rocker cover upon assembly which has got caught under the cam and caused the head to be cracked.
Hard to prove and even harder to stomache the costs involved in getting it all fixed - but she is back on the road; quieter, smoother and with more power than ever before (heads got a real good working this time). Computer chip may have to be the next mod (after the wedding) as I think the standard one is about at its limit.
When I can get into my garage (there is a new toy in there currently) I will get some pics of the damage - it's nasty!!

I was able to find sets of reco'd heads for as little as $450 a pair. My problem was that I had a lot of work done to the heads when the motor was rebuilt and was not prepared to waste the money I spent by replacing both heads.
I ended up buying a single head off a magna motor and getting it matched to the worked head -- $135 for the single unit.

Now all I need to do is prove they left the nut in there so I can pursue legal advice - bit hard to prove though.

Damn!
That bites!
Have you checked the sump for the nut? Might be able to go fishing with a magnet on a flexible rod?
How about the nuts on manifold studs etc? Find the nut, look for an "odd one out" where the damaging nut might belong. Whether you find it or not, I wouldn't expect it to be too hard to prove their negligence - in a civil case I think you only need "balance of probability" and not "beyond reasonable doubt"?
Try small claims court for cost of repairs.
Good luck,
Scott

Ouch!!
Nice one B. You've gotta keep better track of your nuts!! Remember you need to hand them over on the wedding day!

Nah - think I'll keep em for a while.
Not like you - yours were handed in a long time ago.
