Donaldson Precleaner v Snorkel Ram

Hi all,

Got 90% of a snorkel for my 80 series, thats all but the snorkel head. With the silly price of a new Safari ram I was looking at a Donaldson Precleaner for about half the price.

Whats the pros and cons of the Donaldson, never had one, are they noisey as the snorkel is on the drivers side on the 80?

Its going on a 97 turbo diesel 80 series.

Thanks,

Alec

I use a pre cleaner on my Hilux, but its on the passenger side so I dont notice any noise. There have been no complaints from the passengers either.
You should have a look at a Donaldson Air filter as your main filter. They work a treat. You change the cartridge just once or twice a year (depending on workload) and the muck that they catch is unbelievable.

If your in a dusty area then go the precleaner the amount of crap they trapped while driving up the cape was unreal.
If your on bitumen in town go the ram.

On a TD 80 series, I believe that a 8" donaldson precleaner might not flow well enough.

Back in the day, I think that Safari used to recommend a 10" precleaner for 80's and the like.

I used to run a 8" donaldson on my 2.8 hiluxes and there was a drop in performance over the ram.

They certainly do work though. good in heavy rain and snow too- they keep lots of water out of the intake.

Anyone know of any good truck supply parts places around Northern Sydney? Havent found a $35 ram anywhere but would be very keen on one.
