Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Does anybody know of a company that stocks or can make a Reese style hitch for a Feroza?
I Have checked out a few different places and they just stock a standard tow tongue that has a pretty low capacity around 1500 kgs. I would like something a bit stronger for recoveries. All the guys i 4by with are in bigger trucks, When i snatch em out i don't want to rip my car appart.

I know Rocky's have one done at ISP here in Newcastle..The standard tongue type is rated at 1000kgs and the Hayman Reese hitch type are rated at 2000kgs... Still not that great, it's due to the mounting points, or lack thereof compared to say a Hilux or Patrol Hayman-Reese towbar.

They wanted large biccies for it... i recall about $600 for the stronger type one.

I customed up a towbar for recovery's which runs a big a$$ peice of rhs between the chassis and bolted to it with 10mm plate.. I then have the tongue bolted in the factory location (the 4 bolts) plus have the lower section bolted to the rhs running behind it.

I did this due to my towbar breaking during a snatch... it will never move an inch again

I just looked at Hayman-Reese don't make a square hitch style for the Feroza, sorry.

They only make the 1000kg/80kg one... Bugga

Dai-Hard... The 2000kg/120kg rated square hitch rrp is $493.. depends if you fit it yourself or not.

The crappy 1000kg one is $154... This is only the factory gooseneck piece though, which bolts via the 4 bolts just under the rear door.

more a clearance thing sick of bending it and getting caught on it.

These two mentioned wont help alleviate any clearance issues

you will find it very hard to mfind one and if you do it will be $$$$$. because the feroza tow capacity is limited there isnt a demand for a towbar with a large rating......... hang on there isnt a demand for any thing daihatsu

Dai-hard... a reese hitch towbar will lower your ground clearance compared to the stock bolt on gooseneck...

You can remove the bolt on piece and fab up a plate with an eye in the centre. You could then use this for a recovery point, and you wont have the gooseneck naging down.
I think some Pajero's used the same 4 mounting holes, so you might be able to find something made for them.
But, this point is not recommended for heavy recoveries.. it's quite weak where it is welded to the chassis.

Ferozas came with a recovery loop bolted where the towbar goes from factory- I've seen some driving around like that. Most likely it gets tossed in the bin when the towbar was fitted???

You can get more clearance with a receiver type towbar- I had one custom made to replace my old towbar because it hung down too far.

My Roza has one of those loop style points. It is just mounted into the factory bar gear which is welded together. The welds don't look strong enough for what i need. I have snatched out a Surf and a Landcruiser before by just running the snatch around the whole bar work this loop is welded onto. It makes for a little uneasy removal once everthing has locked its way on.

I was hoping to replace the whole assembley with a recovery worthy set up that could be used for towing aswell ie: A Hitch Receiver. I guess i will have to go down the usual Daihatsu 4WD build up path and Go Custom.

thanks. wasnt sure about the reese hitch . ive got a factory hook/eye already . was just lookin for something easier then unbolting the towbar every time i go 4weelin.

You're spot on mate, mine snapped off the bar which it is welded to The welds just gave way

Sure will... but custom is always fun!
And in the end you get a better product anyways

I used the normal towbar and strengthened it up...

Yeah, its 10mm plate onto the chassis, with 3 grade 8 high tensile bolts on each one.

RHS is about 5mm wall thickness and is welded to each 10mm plate.

I then have 2 more grade 8 bolts fixing the standard towbar to the RHS. I was going to weld this, but I wanted to keep it removable if needed.

This is so strong its unbelievable.. The chassis will bend before this

What you need is that strengthening rail between the chassis rails and my towbar assembly.

I want that towbar/gooseneck! I would have loved to build mine around a reese hitch... dang nice one

The hitch was found on a dirt track by my father inlaw and the remainder is my old towbar cut and shut (by him) to suit.

BTW I'm looking at selling the Feroza in the nearish future so bits like that I'd be willing to sell seperately.
