HJ47 Vacuum Tank..Necessary?

Ive got a HJ47 and im considering chopping the sills a couple of inches to loose some rust and gain a bit of clearance on the venerable sills. The vacuum tank that is mounted on the drivers side has me a bit worried though and i would like to remove it.

Is it really necessary to have one? I know that 60 and 75 series have a much smaller tank and I was thinking of just using one of these and relocating it closer to the vac pump in the engine bay.

So basically do i need a tank? and if so will a smaller tank still give enough vacuum for brakes?

Why can't you relocate that tank.

My BJ73 runs the smaller round tank. It has the same alternator (so same vacuum pump) as the BJ42 I used to have which had the big tank, . So I cannot see any reason that it would not work using the smaller round one.
The only thing that I could think is that the booster might be different.
Cheers.
