Does anyone know if you can fit a holden trimatic (6cyl) to a transfer case.?Maybe a toyota, land rover? has to be something with an offset rear diff. Ive gotten sick of the manual would like to use a trimatic (because I have one).

we used to call them Traumatic or Triplastic...... they don't take a caning too well. Might pay to shell out a bit more spondooly and get a turbo 400. Check the Marks 4WD Adaptors site and see if they have something.....

They fitted them to Vitara but they are a centred diff.

yes i agree that they do have this rep in standard form, but as with most things they are able to be modifided by the right people to a very good thing in my opinion, they use these gear boxs behind all sorts of fast turbo 4's and 6's.

apparently there is a mob somewhere that puts ford shafts, etc :? in them to stop them from shitting themselves. About $2000 last time i heard about it.

Sorry cant help you any more than that as the agument went pear shaped when i suggested a t400 as he runs a v8 and tows a bogie trailer all day every day. His traumatics(std) last about 1 year before they go bye bye.

Cheers

Turoa - I wouldn't get stuck on using the trimatic just because you have a working one. It'll have to be rebuilt anyway as the output shaft will have to come out for mods. Plenty of mobs doing beef ups on the trimatics though, They will handle (built) way more power than a very healthy 202 could ever put out. Allow around $800 for a decent rebuild job.

If you really want an auto - I've got a C4 (c9) to series transfer conversion kit, I'd consider selling - BUT you will need to go a ford V8 or 250 :?. Don't even think about adapting a c4 to a holden six.

IMO - your cheapest option ( i think ) would be a commo v6 and t700. this could be pushed way forward and allow enough room for a divorced transfer. + you'll get an overdrive.

I did some research into this some time ago and drew a blank on any adapters to convert a trimatic to anything, but they do come standard with vitara transfer cases.

With the use of a kicker (OTT industries) type of arrangement, you could theoretically get a hilux transfer behind there, but it's not really the hot setup for a land rover.

PS I think that Yanucelli's 4WD (Brisbane) in the mid eighties used to make trimatic adapters, but I have not heard of them since seeing their ads in mid eighties Bushdriver magazines.

Steve.

thanks for the replies. I may end up getting a commodore v6 and auto in there. Probably on a cruiser transfer. How much are cmmodore v6's over there in aussie? here in NZ they are only about $500. BTW I found that if I used a suffix c gearbox on a sffix b transfer, with the 4.88's I'm going to use in the new axles, I have a crawl ratio of 273:1 (something like that anyway)

I think you have done some dodgy maths, afaik - you'll get around 50:1 with the above combo.

Popeye is right - box is about 3.6:1, suffix b t-case 2.88:1, diffs 4.88:1

3.6*2.88*4.88 = 50.6:1

I took the info I used to get that off here. http://users.mrbean.net.au/~rover/boxratios.htm 19.43 (first gear)x2.888(transfer case)x4.88(diff ratio)= 273.855392 am I doing it wrong?

the chart in the link is for final drive ratios

Overall drivetrain ratio = gearbox ratio x transfer case ratio x differential ratio.

19.43 is your final drive ratio with 4.7 diffs (in 1st gear high range)
