Hi Guys

Has anyone tried the GPS in this PDA?

HP ipaq hw6500 series

I have heard that they are not as accurate.

Not sure if you can put the OzExplore maps on this or not.

Cheers
Eric

I don't think that they are a SIRF III chip so they will be OK but not as good as say a Globalsat bluetooth GPS receiver. No reason why you can't run Oziexplorer maps on it if you have Oziexplorer CE software.

the upside is that they work indoors, but I'm pretty sure the 'GPS' function is a subscription service with a monthly cost. It will work with oziexplorer etc, but pretty sure it won't work in any slightly remote place (like where you don't get mobile reception)

I certainly wouldn't be buying one based on it's GPS functionallity.

I just bought a hx4700 2nd hand and one of the new globalsat bluetooth gps' very very happy all for about $200 cheaper than this one, running oziexplorer on it.

Oh if its a payed service thats no good. No reception = no GPS?

I'll scrub that idea if thats the case.

Yeah if it's the one I'm thinking of (pretty sure it is) it doesn't actually have a GPS receiver in it, but uses a system of signal triangulation from cellular towers. I'm not posative it's a subscription service, but saw something yesterday about 'free 3 months GPS access' in an ad from them somewhere, so assume it must be...
