Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Can anyone send me or point me in the right direction for the truck specs and modification allowed for winch challenge trucks and for the outback challenge.

How current are those rules, l heard there are going to be changes after the incident at the Ateco Challenge, like compulsory harneses, window nets and helmets.

The CCDA (Drivers Assoc) does not support nets, harnesses and helmets. If it's in an event (Ala Outback Challenge or a Metcalf event) its because the organiser wants it but not with the support of the CCDA. We will not be seeing many nets or harnesses in events and it won't be in the CCDA rules. Drafty you should know this - call us! Do you want this crap in Navrun too! I won't have it and nor will the members of CCDA.

With these harneses,helmets and window nets make our sport a lot safer,in the insurance eyes so we can keep doing what we love, wether it's comp's, weekend drives or just touring.

In comp's if every body has the same safety requirements then every ones in the same boat, so no advantage can be gained, just like in other form's of motor sport.

Now before i get jumped on from a great height , my truck was rolled at a fair speed on road ,not by me but a ex mate, in the current rebuild it has harnesses incorparated in the design, and helmets are an option, i also don't want me or a mate hurting themselves because of lack of foresight.

The class rules aren't very descriptive so I guess I'll ask what I want to know and see what the answers are.
1. can I change the wheelbase.
2. are diffs allowed to be changed.
3. will and external cage be okay.
4. can the wheel track be changed
Also weather these mods are allowed for some events and not others.

It might be a great idea to post a sticky somewhere on the site with all the rules and regs for these events so everyone can see what is required in building a vehicle to compete in. It may also help in bringing all the events in line with each other once all guidelines are displayed in one place.

I do need lessons in how to winch as my trucks usually drive everything

Interested to hear whats going on over there - our winch challenge starts at the end of this month and helmets and harnesses are compulsory for everyone for the first time this year... As we usually follow the trends from OZ/Malaysia/Uk it does seem unsusual that we are going out on a limb like this.... Has there already been a discussion in this forum about the pros and cons??

Hi Sam, Just to answer your questions #s 1,2 & 4 under my rules it is allowed. #4 again under my rules you will require an approved internal 4 Point cage from the "A" pillar.

Just to clear up a few things, Sam you will have to look at what events you want to do & set your vehicle up for those events. The safety rules etc roll bars harnesses etc ( do not count vehicle mods) I have in place for 2004 should enable you to enter any event both here in Australia & overseas.

The new rules for the Xtreme Winch Challenge Series is for your safety. I want to see my event around for along time and if it means putting in rules to protect you I will. I am only talking for the events that Xtreme 4X4 Sport run & not anyone else.

On winch events in Australia at the moment for 2004 there are:- Ateco (1 event), Vic Winch Challenge (1 event) Xtreme Winch Challenge Series (3events) plus the Xtreme International & 8 day event to be held in Queensland at LMP in Sept. There is also the Outback Challenge which is a multi skilled event taking in winching, navigation & skilled events.

So you have a few to choose from, you just need to know what event or events you want to enter.

Now I am up and running I will have the new rules for the Xtreme Winch Challenge Series & the Xtreme International out by the end of the week.

So it seems wheelbase changes are not allowed for OBC, but Ok for MMM events???
