I must admit that this thread has me a little concerned:

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... php?t=7940

I say this because I've always been telling my better third that one day my little car will be complete and I will be satisfied with it and there will never be any more mods going on - just maintenance etc etc...

But now I see that even having what could possibly be described as the 3rd most capable rig in australia (based upon results from last years tuff truck) may not be sufficient to quench the thirst of we - the 4wders...

Is this always going to be the case? Is anyone out there actually satisfied with their car... Do any of you just drive it around completely happy with what it can do?

Unfortunately no. And we who modify our zooks are just like those who mod their V8's and the rice boys with the 4's.......we just don't know when to stop! Most of the time it take someone else to stop us..(useually the handbrake  ) so you can look forward to many more years to come, of arguments with the wife about why you need to spend yet MORE money on the zook

i remember sam saying in another thread that he wished that he'd built a registered rig so he could get more seat time, maybe thats the main reason :?

Phew... I was getting worried that there would soon be nothing left to fight about... but now that I have been reassured that the battle will continue, I'm a happy man. ;)

I remember a time not that long ago when I thoguht a set of 235/75 AT's would be all I would need to do to my Vitara.....

Ahh well got a different toy to blow money on.... I was getting a bit bored of hotting up old dattos anyway.

Antt has it the main reason is the lack of driving I get in the buggy. The buggy is the most capable truck I have ever driven it leaves my old ZOOK (the one I came 3rd in at TTC)for dead.Although we came second at both rounds of XRCC they didn't come close to stretching the capabilities of the buggy.
I want to build another Zook for a few reasons
1.get more time behind the wheel
2.get more involved in club trips to meet more people
3.want to do the outback challenge next year and a few winch events.
4. my kids are getting to the age where they can come out with me.

I will be honest The VITARA won't come close to been as good in the rocks as the buggy but it will be a good all round truck. I will still compete in all the rockcrawling events in it just in Mod truck as apposed to outlaw.
If all goes well I will be left with the chassis and cage from the buggy which I will put in a corner and once the insurance issues and there are enough events to warrant having it I will put it back together and drive it.

I am still looking for a Vit. All I want is a early model preferably injected white hardtop SWB.
I will do a solid swap with the front diff out of the buggy.
Stretch the wheelbase to about 96 inches.
External cage
TURBO
35 inch tyres (does anyone run these yet on a Vit in AUS)
coils all round
New three link in the rear(to move the diff back)
five or four link in the front.
NO BODY LIFT.
ARB's front and rear

Any other ideas???

I woulda thought that KIDS = LWB but.

I don't know of anyone running bigger than 33"s on a vitara, but there's a few on 33"s.

I have 3 kids and the wife won't come so there are plenty of seats in a SWB

won't your solid axle swap and suspension mods rule you out of "modified class"?

anyway, sounds like it'll be a wicked vitara... possibly toughest in australia?

get the kids started young sam. soon you'll be building them a mini-crawler out of your old chassis! :D

I can understand your reasoning about the Hardtop Sam, but maybe a Softtop version with Fibreglass removable Hardtop would be a better idea? Best of both worlds?

Murray that may be an option if i can't find a hard top one but the roof wouldn't ever be coming off. as the cage will be going over it.

Here you go Sam. Build it like this one. I have no idea of the specs. All i know is that it is from Canada and you may be able to find out more from www.whiteknight.ca

That's good.... I paid that for my soft-top 88 model and I got that damn cheap. Mine had no accident damage, but stuffed suspension all round - Just what a 4wder wants.

Mind you it ain't what it costs you to buy that's gonna be the issue really is it?

I've got a front bar you can have but I think you'll have a tube bullbar on it within a week anyway.....

Sounds like a goer.... since you're gonna ditch the bumper anyway and chop the guards.
