Can I please ge some honest information on ser 2,3 etc 3.0l patrols and if they had the problems that the early ones had. need to know if they are a viable option for farmily transport, as there is not much to be had for the same value as them. not interested in smaller vehicles want the patrol ability but the 3.0 price

Can't vouch for the series 3, but I'm looking to replace the 3.0L in my GUII with a V8 Chev Diesel - not cheap, but I'm over the constant problems of the ZD30.
Can't say that too much will change from series II & III... Touchy Bosch pump, dodgy airflow meters. You can't get that much performance (and there is some) out of a 3.0L four cylinder without complicating it with confuzers! Being a family rig (as is mine), go with the reliable (4.2L), may cost more now, but go and price a couple of airflow meters, an EGR valve and a re-build on a pump! I only got the nod for the engine change over because the boss got caught while I was in America, so she's pissed!

Looks like more looking for a 4.2, it would have been easy and cheap to go for a 3.0 but for a reason by the looks of things. :?

My opinion may be biased, but for good reason! I am a Nissan fan, wouldn't have it any other way, but I have nothing good to say about the ZD30 for a tourer in Australia. I will send my details when I get home (currently out of country for 6 months). Must warn you though, I think I got a lemon! Lots of faults. Must have been a Friday Car - guy who put it together was thinking about the weekend coming!!! When you think about it, they are tapping alot of power out of a relatively small motor. Comes down to squeezing everything available (using computers/sensors of course), rather than just making a simple one bigger (4.2), but sometimes simple = good.

Good luck, I think you're doing a great job. Hope Nissan makes it worth your while too! While they spend a shit-tin on R&D, there's no better Research than a couple of thousand owners around the world. I also hope more guys with no faults contribute, but you know the old addage of never hearing about the good things, only the bad.[/quote]
