hey all.

the alternator in my fj45 2f ute is not stopping to charge when my battery is fully charged. Meaning its charging a fully charged battery which gets hot and could explode. I only noticed it doing this on thursday arvo when i got home from the coast, 50 min drive on the m1.

im pretty sure its the regulator that has shit itself, so i rang my auto and its gettin fixed on monday, but until then i need this car to drive. the 2 solutions i have thought of is to disconnect the alternator or just drive with as many electricals on as possible.

what would be the best thing to do now until it gets fixed?

cheers
matt

d/c the alt will work until you battery goes flat.

driving at low rev,s with stereo, headlights etc will help to a point.

you can disconnect the alt, but when you do make sure you disconnect the 3 pin plug instead of the battery lead. (i'm assuming it has an externall regulator).

yer i think the regulator is up on the firewall. and the plug is black. the plug is up next to the regulator.

is that right?

A mate of mine had a Holden HQ ute,was a show car for many years until his battery exploded one day, took all the paint off the engine bay & stripped all the CHROME plating off the engine  :bad-words:  :bad-words:
