Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have installed some series 3's and was wondering which oil people recommend. Do i just use what the service manual says for the sierra or do they require something different.

There are mixed opinions about this - various authorised workshops seem to run 140w in them, whereas the info card that comes with the gears states "as per the vehicle manufacturers recommendation" which is 90w

I think the 140w is mostly to keep the noise down on noisy gearsets.

The series 4 car I have at my place ATM has very quiet gears and has 90w in it.

I think I would run high quality 90w for a while and then go synthetic once I knew it wasn't going to break or leak. IMHO 140w is for tractors and harleys (oops, same thing)

Went up to Glenmaggie this weekend, nice v.steep country around there good proving ground for the series 3's. My winch got a work out! Give us a yell anytime you are heading out.

I would be running 140w for a s3 mine was noisy as even though it was a rebuilt case.The 140w seems too make the case a fair bit quie ter

i just run standard weight with my series 3 everything thing else is so noisey i cant hear a damn thing anyway let alone any gear whine

Are there any ill effects of using 140W?

And is there any perticular brand of oil i should use and any i should avoid?

i also dumped a heap of morey's heavy duty oil stabiliser in with the 90W gear oil, it's really tacky stuff and it's a sure thing that everything is well lubricated then too..

i also use morey's as assembily oil for these so they dont run dry on the initial drive waiting for the oil to splash around ........my 2 cents
