cutting the back off a patrol

This has probably been asked a thousand times before but I'm gonna ask again because I couldn't find anything on the search thingy.
I've got a high roof patrol which i'm about to cut the turret off and put a standard turret on. I'm also going to cut the back off from the end of the rear doors and put an alloy tray on.
What I want to know is has anyone got any pics of there patrols that they have done this mod on?
Also what did you get the back end off and what type of window did you use?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Mick.

Have you looked at the price of a standard patrol body? Might save a bit of time and money instead of doing the whole roof and possibly having cracking and extra rust problems in years to come. As for the back, a lot of people get the back off a Cruiser ute. Or they get just the window of a flat backed ute that will fit and just fill the rest with checker plate steel. You could even graft an older holden one tonner or a late model ford ute back into it.

The body on mine has no rust and is pretty straight. I work in a smash shop so it will be getting done properly. We can usually remove and replace a turret in about 4 hours but i'd hate to think how long it would take to do a body swap.

My biggest problem was finding out people use for the back and what windows they use.
You have pretty much answered my questions thanks mate.
I guess I should ring an engineer and find out all the things they will be looking at too.
Cheers Mick.

Hey Mick, why not see if one of those sliding windows out of an F100 will fit in. They are heaps handy and you will get great ventilation in summer. By the way have you made up your mud flaps yet

i got a patent on it

Cheers Mick.

No I havn't bothered. There is nothing left of my rear quarters now from smashing them on rocks. I'll have to sort something out though before I get it re engineered.
I like the idea of the f100 windows too. I'll have to go and spend a day at the Central coast wrecker with my measuring tape.
Cheers Mick.

You have killed 2 birds with the one stone there mate. A guy I work with has a shorty which he wants to look like the white one. Did you do the green one as well? if so what did you use as a back panel? I love the white one but I keep smashing my quarters to bits.

I want to do something simillar to the green one but still keep it a 4 door.
Cheers Mick.

You can purchase the back panel from nissan I think or just use the back of an older MQ/ MK ute. Picked mine up for $350 with window and all.

I have seen that white/blue one driving around Logan, looks very nice and well done. Have often wondered about the flares, did you just glass around the original flares and make the whole flare/panel look like one or is it a fibreglass panel

fibre glass guards on the front.
pumped out the rear and made custom flres on the rear.
(note 35 on 15x10 rims are under the guards still)

The green one is Darren Blackburn's old truck and was done by On Track at Slacks Creek. You can also buy the back wall panel from On Track.
This is the green one being done.
As it looked when first done

I pretty much want mine to look simillar to the green one. I like the look of that.

Only I want to keep mine a 4 door.

That looks awesome

I'd like to do that to mine. Does anyone know of anywhere to get back panel similar in Melbourne?
Thanks
Glenn

One of the nicest 4 doo joobs I have seen is Brett's from On Track @ Slacks Creek. His wifes car.
The othe is Duncan Scott's from Macquarie 4x4.
Somebody will have pics of both i'd say

I heard there's a different number of roof ribs on the MQ/K models, and they won't line up
can anyone confirm/deny this?

There is a different number of roof ribs (5 as opposed to 6 on GQ - I think this is correct) but the back wall still fits. Only thing is with MQ bak wall you have no "bubble" with early GQ you have "half bubble" and later GQ's have full "bubble" back wall.

bubble makes no difference if u r going extra cab tho

by bru21
bubble is ugly on an extra and makes it harder to mount an x brace

agreed
must say i still think using factory wags rear looks good too
