dual transfer cases

Just wondering guys,
Hiluxes have a 3 piece T/case that can be adapted so that one section can be fitted between the existing case & tranny. That gives you many possibilites with gears etc.
Question??
Could this be done in a Paj, ??
Anyone??

Just get the crawler gears.
Unless you are running 36 inch + tyres they will be fine.
More than slow enough.

yeah, i've already got 3.15 crawler gears, a remarkable im provement over standard, BUT IMO dual cases gives more choices & heaps more lower gears whilst still allowing standard low for whn you do want to travel a bit faster.
Crawler gears lock you into lower gearing wheras dual cases give you the best of both worlds.
Now that I have checked out my Gregorys, I doubt that this could be done with the Paj???
cheers

Someone claims to have done it in Finland.
Posted on Trail Talk some years ago that two 3.0 V6 super select t/cases were mated together with custom shafts, adapter plate etc using the stock ratio's to give around 70:1.
There were no crawler gears as such just 1.925x1.925xdiff ratiox1st gear.
When pressed for further imfo he was very vague then dissappeared off the forum never to post again. Me suspects he was taking a mind altering substance.
I just don't think it could be done using Mitsu t/cases knowing the linkage set ups and also being chain driven. It would be a massive engineering exercise involving custom housings, shafts and linkages and just would not be economically feesible. A better (cheaper) option would be a Klune or adapting the Lux twin stick.

Gidday Frank,
Good to hear from you again.
Yeah the Paj case doesnt look easy adaptable.
& also the paj case has the centre diff in it. If one was to adapt a lux case then you would lose super select feature, yes??
I really like the super select system , after having landies, toys etc , I reckon its the best you can get.
But if you take away the super select problem then a whole lot of options open up, IMO.
Like say a Commie 3.8 (n/a or SV6) , using the Comm dore tranny 460le or 700r4, that way you dont have to worry about motor to tranny adaptors etc. You could then use an Atlas case which bolts to the GM tranny, the good thing about the Atlas is that it has heaps of gear options & you can use the remote cable select option to place the levers where they best fit. Pity atlas dont make an electronic case & pity they are heaps expensive.!!
Even the new 3.6l Commie motor in 190kw guise look good & extremely compact like the Paj 3.5l.
But dual cases would be great!!
