Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi people,

This may not sound like a topic worthy of discussion but I'm in a need to know scenario right now.

Got my Feroza completely covered in mug on the weekend up at Newnes with Croz and a guy by the name of Luke (stay tuned for the details of the trip to come along soon).

The engine bay was so encased with the stuff that after spending an hour with a preassure cleaner in there there's still mud stuck to the firewall and all the rubber bits etc.

Can anyone give me some hints on how to get rid of it all??? Specialy the rubber hoses & door seals.

The car stayed in Lithgow to get some repairs (that's another story) so the mud stayed on it from Saturday all the way through to last night (Wednesday) when I collected it which was never the intention and appears to be pretty well baked on.

Any assistance would be appresciated.

Here's what I normally do, and mine usually ends up spotless

Go to Carlovers, the manual do it yourself wash.

Put a plastic bag over air filter, anything else you might be worried about getting drenched.

Use the Tyre/Engine Degreeser Option. Use this HEAPS on the inside. It's hot, it's degreeser, loosens the shit outta everything..

Then Usually I just run the spotless rinse over it, but you might have to blast here and there..just be carefull....

As for the rest of the car, either I do it manually, or go through the Auto and roll back n forwards over the under body wash 7-8 times

I actually did that last night but obviously didn't give it enough degreaser. I'll give it another go on the weekend. I'm actually going to take off the air filter box and hoses as unfortunately plenty of mud got in there too... should be ok though... it's still running so thats a plus.

well.. if u REALLY want to save some time an money... juse buy urself some "purple" cleaner.. not sure if this is carried where u are... but that stuff works great. jus take the normal precautions an pour that stuff wherever u think needs to be cleaned.. let it soak down a bit.. then spray it all off.. it biodegradable... an safe for the envrioment.. its great stuff. use it to clean other stuff as well!!

Where do you buy yours from? Hardware stores or Auto stores???

Hmmmm makes me wonder... does it come in any other colours besides purple...

I have heard of people using a can of spray Pam...vegitable oil cooking spray. BEFORE you go out spray the whole under side, fender wells engine compartment. It is supposed to be a much easier clean up. The last time that I did mud it cost me $14.00 at the car wash to clean it up. I still had large chunks shake loose on the road for months after.

If u have access 2 a steam/pressure cleaner then it'll help out alot more then just using a hose. Being a detailer and using a pressure cleaner I know these things
Chemtech make a good degreaser called CT14 and u can get it in a 5 litre bottle. If u use degreaser or any products alot your better off buying it in bulk and save
When using degreaser I normaly mix half chemical and half water.

Sounds delicious.

But seriously what I usually do after washing the engine bay in water, I let it dry and then I spray it with armourall or similar product to hide the dullness left by the mud.

Ahh !!! 5 mins of fun , 5 hours of cleaning

Dont worry about Cleaning it just do what I do. Leave the mud its a good to save the paint if you Run into Somthing.

this what I do, i find if I clean my engine bay I find leaks and stuff I don't want to know about
