im thinking if turboing my 89 td42, my question is, the engine has done nearly 400k's should i have it rebuilt first???

why not get it looked over by a good diesel place. It all depends on how it got to 400k not the fact that it did

Iwas going to turbo mine with 472000km on it. Still have the turbo kit just got no car.

400k is a bit but we have turboed them with that before just not running big boost ... 8-10 psi ... still going strong after 480000k

Mines done 498,000, when I asked a well known brand about turboing it they said you would want to at least do a set of rings first, don't know if thats sensible or not? Or why bother just drop a V8 in? Don't know what to do myself.

i turbo'd my wagon it only had 310 on the clock, i was advised later to get the compression checked and go from there, all personal opinion thou

I have heard of engines with 400,000kms on the odometre being turbo'd. It all comes down to how the engine has been serviced throughout its life I beleive. Personally I would have a good diesel mechanic do the obvious checks like compression and so forth and if they give the go ahead then I see no reason not to fit a turbo.
