pahnhard rods

iv got a set of 4 inch coils and shocks for my mavrick so all i need is castor plates and pahnhard rods. i was wondering has anyone made there own pahnhard rods? if so what size steel did you use? i am thinking of just puting in the coils and working out the size of the rod needed.

i dont know anyone thats made their own, but a mate of mine cut and sleeved his to make tham a bit longer. personally i reckon you are better to outlay the dough and get heavy duty adjustables

I came close to making my own and thought bugger it. The rear would be easy as it's straight, but you'd have to put the correct bend in the front one and make/buy/weld a bracket for the stabiliser. You could cut it and sleeve it too, then reinforce it 'cos they're weak as.

Unless you've access to a good press forget it 'cos the bushes are a mutha to press out and in. If you have got a press and buy new rods, press out the bushes and put genuine ones in on the front panhard. They're not too exy from Nissan

Tough Dog Pannies come with Genuine Nissan bushes. I know cause my rods came without the bushes installed and genuine nissan boxed ones int he box to prove they are OE.

Great bloody rods too, only have them on a 2" lifted GQ but they are tuff as

easy to do if you are geared up or know someone who is.
these are mine i made using 35mm cds and 30mm threaded rod.

you will need to add about 12-15mm usually.

Desert fox rods seem to be ok, and fit factory bushes, which is important.

We also make extra heavy duty stainles washers to hold the rods on, and help the bushes last, and stop the rods being able to come off over a bent steel washer on the diff ends.

gq 4 inch lift ,cut off the ends and welded em on a bit 50mm x 25mm box.
for 4 inch lift just add 16mm in length(cost about 10 bucks to make and you wont bend it(like old 1)

thanks for your replies. wat is the outside diamiter of the bushes as ill probly just buy some tube for the end bits were the bushes press into an a lenth of box section. so i still have the stock ones so i can convert it back to stock wen i sell it.

I bought mine from bursons. They are whitline and were $180 each (with bushes) which is a lot better than any other quote i got, although it wouldnt be hard to make your own. I'm pretty sure the aftermarket ones are solid not hollow.

Hollow round section is actually stronger than solid bar when it comes to bending it. But the one's you buy are 32mm solid and are plenty strong.

Did you make the front one out of rhs aswell?

No a solid bar is still stronger than the equivelant hollow bar with the same outer diametre!! However the hollow bar is stronger per unit weight as much of the material closest to the certral axis is "wasted" as it doesnt proved much resistance to bending compared to if the same material was on the outer side of the bar.

example a 31.75mm (1¼ “) by 1.24mm (0.049”) tube bar is the equivalent of a 23.0mm solid bar. This solid bar has an OD which is 72.6% (23/31.75 x 100) of the tube OD, but has an increase in weight of 71.5% over the tube bar.

for the rear :
cut mine and reused the bush housings, and used 44OD with 3.4mm wall thickness while makeing them 10mm longer all up

front is standard

front panhard rod is still standard untill a few more beers and the little engineer comes out in me(power tools and beer yehyehyeh)

so when using the standard front panhard rod the diff still sits in the center with a 4 inch lift? or how big is ur lift?
this would be good as i will only need to mod the rear rod.

God no! I have a 4" lift and it pulled the diff way off centre - the drivers front wheel was way out the guard, and the passenger one way inside it. Just change the pair and have done.

Just wondering, I'm about to fit a 6" tough dog lift kit on the weekend. Does anybody know what I should set the panhard rods at??
