am looking at buying some HID driving lamps

who has hid lights and what do you think of them

what brands have the best quality and performance

tossing up between

lightforce
Hella
super vision
PIAA

awesome but $$$

do you have halogen spotties now? You may be able to convert them to HID using a kit off ebay and the total cost is about 3-400 for a pair of lights. I did mine and the result is awesome

cost isnt really a factor , i want good lights and after spending tens of thousands of $$$$$$ on my car i think that to put inferior lights on it would be stupid.

LF XGT or Blitz's can fairly easily be converted to HID's.
Hella 155 and 181 use a H3 bulb. Buy a H3 HID kit.
Hella 1000's use a H2. H2 halide bulbs do not exist!
Hella 2000 and 4000 use a H1 bulb. Buy a H1 HID kit.

Dunno much about the PIAA and Supervision's.

If you want the maximum light output that one can possibly get at the cheapest price, buy four Blitz's off ebay, buy two 50w HID kits, and put these kits into them. Mount the four Blitz's on your roof. And *walla*.
4 lux at 2.5 kilometres!

fair enough then but listen to Bushy when he mentions the 50W HID kits then. Converting a pair of halogen spots with these I dare say you'll exceed the output of any off the shelf HID lights

cool i will have a look at them aswell.
when i say cost isnt a factor , doesnt mean i have $$$ to throw away , i just want to get something that i will be happy with.

Or a perscription windscreen?

Some Kermit green trucks need them.

nearly finished my first one . had to limp back .the carbys power keeps breaking stuff.but i can see well with my IPF spotts from any of your local ARB dealers

yep got IPF,s on the GU but i dont think Stew liked the HID's much
1 failed on the first day

they were the test bunny set new and modded one are out now. once you use IPF lights its like you have blinkers on you see everything

With GE inserts ha i know the ones .they create alot of heat soyou would have to mount them on the roof-thats where he is putting them anyway

Ive recently dropped a pair of hella predators to my defender. Went with two spread beams.. to replace a pair of cibie oscars. Performance is amazing, probaly the best accesary Ive added. The twin driving lights give excellent lateral light and good distance. Paid $500 each

When A mate first got his. We had to use a towel around the light to aim them as they got hot to quick. But geez there bright. Better than my HID rally4000's with 50w HID kit.
Darren if you already have 24v. Might be worth setting up with 2 500w lights in the center of roof (these fit into IPF 900 housings and cibi). And make up some spread beams for the outers.
But the 500w 24V draw 40amps (for a pair) and I think most of the 24V alt only put out approx 50-60amps at max. So would need to turn them of for winching.

I'd be going HID For the sake of not drawing 40 amps.
HID inserts work as well as original HID lights.

My question is should i run spots or spreads on my roof? Or a pair of each? I don't know that seeing 2.5km down the road is going to be of much assistance as i can only travel at 135km/h bor i redline!

the 24v part is the problem , as i have a 24v winch would prefer them on the 12v circuit

HID's into blitzs! Look PM bushy he has done all the hard work for everyone already! And the light output is amazing. The only concern i have about converting halo's to HID's would be the lack of waterproofing!
