swapping top mount for front mount... is it worth it?

half deciding wether i want to sell the top mount and get a front mount installed on my MU.

bit worried about having the front mount when im going off road tho..

any thoughts?

Go with the top mount very simply install, lots of problems with installing front mount.

front mounts are better engine wise, better airflow and don't suffer as much heat soak eg heat off the motor heating up the intake air.

catch is they can get full of mud and grass, the longer pipes can mean more lag and as mentioned can be a ***** to fit.

if your really into 4x4 then water/air (top mount or the shortest way you can mount it) are a lot better, exspecially as air/air coolers don't do jack when driving at slow speeds (without a fan). but they cost more and are harder to size correctly. have a look at www.are.com.au

If ya not really 4wding that much, or only on the beach at front mount is okay, but offroad damage is pretty easy. Top mount when wheeling is harder to damage, but as engine bay temps rise it should be called an interwarmer. Slow speed means low air flow over the core, and high engine times will lead to heat soak and reduced performance. Basically it comes down to what you use to car for and what you want. If its the look your after, go front mount, but really the top mount is prob okay, and you are not going to get a huge performance benefit from changing it unless you make other changes to the motor as well. Engine respose can suffer too as the increase in area in the inlet tract after the compressor will create more lag and less responsive throttle.
