Spring over on MQ LWB

Is a spring over legal? If it is, what is involved, and how much would it cost?

Has anybody actaully rang up and confirmed that they are no longer engineerable ? . I almost have all the parts here for it, but im working so much i can only enjoy traffic island uturns in the morning , damn toorak tractors.

hey there,

I have a mq patrol thats had a spring over done. you can have the whole car for 1500. Its in quite good nick and would be perfect car to further mod into a comp rig or something of that nature. IM on sunshine coast

forget it, it's not legal in qld. theres cheaper and easier ways to get better suspension travel out of the MQ/K

SPOA is great in an mq should have come outa the factory that way :armsup:
In Tassie (apparently australia wide now) You can do a SPOA However you are not allowed to lift a vehicle any more than 150mm above standard or have any more than 1/3 more wheel travel than std (bump stop gap more than 1/3 wider) So that pretty much buggers up a SPOA. I would check the laws in QLD again if I lived up there because the new laws are Australia wide now (unless they have a By Law)

you are in Sydney he is in QLD different laws apply. And no the laws aren't the same for around the country, they are putting proposals forward to try and do that but it hasn't come into play yet everywhere.

Oh well. What is another easy way to get a couple of inches? Are shackles the best way to go?

shackles and longer leafs

if u need more room 4 tyres do a gaurd chop

call superior engineering.......... not a fan of those scissor shackles tho
just get u some of there shackles and a set good condition leaves with no load bearers in em

yeah i realised this, perhaps you could have called it a hijack . AS there are differences in opinions, i might as well ring up and find out for my self, instead of hoping sokmeone else will do it

they are difinatly not engineerable in qld unless you use diffs and springs that came from the factorey sprung over. unless u wanna pay thousands in testing and xraying of componants.

personally unless u want to do it to look cool n make up for a small weng you will never need the lift of a spring over this side of a comp truck.
just get extended shackles (also illegal in qld) and do a gaurd chop. good for well over 35's with no scrub. if u wanna be silly n run even bigger (as we all do) mab look at a body lift as well.

at least this way you still have a decent cog and if you do get defected all you need is a set of 31's and the standard shackles to take it to dept of transport.

Well I certainly don't have any issues with regs and a mod being legal. In the USA we can do whatever we want to a truck and drive it. But I think your point about doing SoA to "look cool" is kind of retarded. Perhaps some guys go for it for that reason but come on, it is hardly why most of us consider it. I could link many pictures of SoA trucks that heavily out flex a stock suspension. The fact is you gain 5" of lift using stock springs with a SoA and you get huge flex increases. Using extended shackles is the poor mans lift and with everything you get what you pay for. Extended shackles flatten out the leaves and IMHO shorten the life of your springs considerably. They also don't do shit for flex all they do is bring the trucks hieght up.

There is lot's of ways to lift a truck but the results are not all the same. For fitting bigger tires and getting more flex SoA is the way to go. If all you care about is big tires then sure extended shackles and body lift plus guard chop will do it. But to say SoA is for looking cool is a pile of bullshit.

The first truck in there has extended shackles. The rear flexes ok but the front is shit. Look at his shackles in front, they are not moving to provide flex. They are just about the same position as if he was on flat ground. Other MQ's pictured in the thread that are SoA heavily outflex regular lifted trucks. And just lifting a truck with 2" springs, extended shackles or body lift doesn't make it flex any better than stock. In some cases it is worse than stock due to the springs fitted, ie 6 pack/8pack.

Thats very clever of you to notice that SOAs are going to get more flex that SUAs will get .They also cost a couple more grand as well, need engineering more as well.
I get more flex with the extended shackles than when i had standard shackles on, my only problem is that i still need to take a couple of leaves out of the front, which i have just been to lazy to do at the moment. ;)
