Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day all

I'm in the market for a new set off rubber for my Sierra. At the moment I have a set of old worn out muddies. They are Dunlop Grantrek 30x9.50 r15 Lt. I would like a set of all terrains, pretty chunky ones, that would be nice on road and that wouldn't be much bigger than my original tyres. At the moment my speedos pretty accurate since the change in gearing (3.9:1 diff gears and stage 1 rockhopper reduction transfer gears). Would anyone be able to give me any advice of which tyre choice and around how much it would cost. My account balance at the moment totals to bucklys and f**k all so if the tyres are fairly cheap than woohoo. Any help on ths subject would be sweet as and well appreciated. If you are after cheap and nasty I went the Motorway MTR remould which is different to the recap as it remoulds the tyre all the way to the bead. I got these for 110 a tyre in 30x9.5r15 in Vic. Had them on for about 6000k's mostly offroad driving and they are sweet seem to be wearing well and grip pretty well in the wet. although a bit noisy on the black stuff.

That sounds great! Sounds like my kind of thing. I'm only a first year apprentice, so you can imagine how dismal my pay packet is every week. So these tyres are fairly comfortable on road also, the ones I've got now make the ride so bone jarring and bouncy. Would you be able to give me the contact number for this joint? I might be able to ship them up to Sydney. Cheers.

good service, cheapest I found when looking for tires. Although if you look around up in sydney i'm sure you could find a tyre outlet that would sell motorway as they are a fairly generic brand made in AUS i think too.

Just remember you do get what you pay for they are a remoulded tyre on an old base but they are better than a recap. I use my zook mainly for 4x4ing and they bag out well too at around 12psi...have been as low as 8psi and it still seemed pretty good. anyway good luck.

what sort of pressue you running in your tyres ... I would only be running around 20 or so psi tops ..

20 psi? Hmm ok, I've been running about 30, I'm guessing that's my problem. I'll deflat them tomorrow and see how I go, but won't that make my fuel economy worse? My fuel economy at the moment is shocking, just like the shock from the tyres. Anywho, cheers.

if u run a low pressure in ur tyres all the time they will wear out more quickly as they will get low pressure damage to the tyres

Have a look at what pressure your tyre placard recomends (you may be suprised)

I was looking at a set of the motor way muddy's and i think thats what i'll go with. I'm also on an app wage so they fit the budget nicly! Or save and get some rock hoppers and a body lift. Tyres probably first.

I'm lucky, I've got the rockhoppers already (stage 1 reduction), they came with the car when I bought it. Pretty much the only good thing that came with the car, I've had to put so much work and money into it. Mind you, the gumby that did the conversion didn't seal it up right. The speedo shat itself, so a mate and I pulled it out and replaced the speedo. No oil! $150 later and it's all fixed now luckily.

Got quoted yesterday at Bridgestone Castle Hill for their new set of all terrains for $190 each, what do you fellas think of that. Dad thinks Bridgies are crap, what do you all think??

In in vic we have mud but i don't know what you have up there. I'd just go the motor ways! Mine had all the stuff exect the rockhoppers! Deffinatly next on the list after a set of muddys

Had no probs with the motorways muddies . I run the 31s on 7s. had them down to 4psi on the sand and they are great.

And in Sydney we have everything. We have mud (drop zone at penrith), rocks (menai), dunes (boat harbour kernell) and then you have the blue mountains.

Motorways web site is www.motorway-tyres.com.au I just shot them off an e-mail to ask how much they are and who stocks them near me. Hope this helps you. I think they also have AT's.

id be very surprised if your tyres make much difference to the ride quality...shocks are the most important thing for a good ride in my opinion...check that they're not stuffed

A sierra needs less air in the tyres than a Patrol does (20 Psi in a Patrol is offroad pressure, 5psi is an offroad pressure for a Zuk)

Exactly right Guy, so many people just don't get it that a 1000KG zook does not need the same pressure as a 2500KG Pootrol, and tyre wear on a car that wieghs as little as a zook is bugger all when compaired to a Pootrol.
It never ceases to amaze me that a tyre service will pump zook tyres up to 35psi and think nothing of it, it is no wonder that the poor little zooks have a reputation for a rough ride

if i run 30psi in my zook the CD player wont play. i normally leave mine at 25 and drop to 15 out in the bush. i can still drive home at 15psi no worries

haha..same here!

I'm running he motorway MT's (30x9.5)..picked them up off ebay with rims for 200 bucks, still with nobbies on the rubber! Mines a daily commuter and weekend basher, and for the $'s, you really can't go wrong with them. In saying that, I don't think I'd run them on my fully laden GQ, but for the zook i reckon they're cool.
