hey all im looking to buy the maxxis buckshot or the maxxis bighorn radial the radial is 30$ more and they look shit hot and looks like they could grip fairly well i dont want to spend big dollers on a set of tires i dont see the point when ya goin bush no matter what tire u have a stick will go through any side wall and they all go round and round and round and there all black. so some opinions would be good and how many k's have ppl been getting out of these tires.
cheers scott

Well i've driven on both and both are great. I'd lean more to the bighorn as its a much newer tyre so that probaly the $30 difference. My next all round tyre will be the bighorn....

either arent to bad for the $, the buckshot would be my personal preference out of the 2 for carcass construction, and wear.

your saying good stuff about the carcass constructiuon of buckshot mudders
I loved buckshot mudders for their grip (much better than bfg muddies) but one thing i was always well aware of was the piss weak sidewalls.
Id go the bighorn radials as I have been lead to beleive the sidewall construction on them is abit tougher than the buckshots (and thats not hard).
Rolly on this forum should have abit of a better opinion on the two, and far more knowledge on the construction as he sells them both every day. Hopefully he chimes in soon.
Cheers
Anthony

are buckshots not just the same as nankang mudstars? i got my mudstars cheaper than the buckshots at $178.50 per corner fitted and blanced in the 33"s. thats why i bought them, cos theyre only going to get flogged anyways, and i dont rekon theyre that bad, not a bad tyre but as said the sidewalls are a bit suss. just a thought

ive got buckshots on my 4wd and there a few years old, ive given them hell and run them down to 16psi in the bush and havent had a problem. they grip well on and off the bituman. ive got a few small rips in the sidewalls but after a few years 4wd on them id say its a good run. i havent even had a puncture with them which is more than i can say for hankook tyres that i previously had.
good value for money and id definately buy another set

i was going to post the same q about buckshot vs bighorn but now its done. i compared my buckshots to a hilux that had bighorns on both 33's and the bighorn has a deeper tread pattern and the side treads are 'chunkier'. my next tyre will be the bighorn. on the same hand the buckshots have done me well so far.

the diference i can see is that the bighorn has side lugs and a 4 ply side wall the buck shot dosn't

Bighorns are 2 ply. Well that's what it says on the sidewall of my 10.5x15s on the hilux
What size are you looking at scottmcguinnes. I'm looking at getting some 33s (285/75x16) for the 80.

15 or 16

Must be 15s, 16s seem to be a fair bit dearer.

Mate of mine (Chippy - 80 series) is going the buckshot because they come in a higher load rating than the bighorns...

There's only 20lbs difference in a 33x12.5x15 and 285/75x16 are the same.
All the details can be found at

Had a look at some 285/75x15 bighorns and they only have a speed rating of M (130kmh) and are unsuitable for a wagon, only good for a ute apparently
