Suffix "C" gearbox onto a "B" transfer.

After deciding to leave the auto conversion until I drop a different motor in there (probably a commodore V6) I decided that I still needed my box replaced (as the bearings sound like they're shot). I have a spare suffix c box and transfer up the back and was wondering how hard it would be to put the "c" box onto the "B" transfer for lower gearing. Is it just a straight swap?, or would I be better off just dropping the suffix "c" box and transfer in.
Cheers

A model and year would help.

Have a look on pirate - there's a good thread about this going on ATM.

The Series transfer cases have the same 10 spline input gear between 2.35 ratios and 2.88. The 2.88' are usually the small intermediate gear shaft, although a 2.88 ratio with large intermediate shaft was made, but hard to get. Series gearboxes are all the same at the back where it bolts to the transfer case. The only different types are those designed to mate to the helical transfer case (RARE). Suffix E Series boxes have roller bearings on reverse gear--identifyable by a bigger bulge in the main gearbox casing where reverse gear is..

Nick do you know where the helical T-cae is used in originally and what the ratio is?

Helical transfer case only used on 1ton models and Foward control (not 101 foward control) Good low range gearing--3.27:1 1.53:1 in high range i think. I think gearboxes fitted to Helical Transfer cases have slightly longer mainshaft--or finer splines. Unfortunatly, they are very hard to get--well in OZ anyway...
