7M-GE gearbox question?

Post by Mantamac »

I have recently laid my hands on a complete UK Toyota Supra 3.0 for next to nothing.
Can anyone tell me if any of the Toyota 4x4 gearboxes fit behind it easily?

If possible I'd like to fit the engine into my UK Daihatsu Sportrak (Feroza) and fit portal axles.

The car:

The engine:

The Simca marmon(French unimog copy) Portal axles. I pick them up monday  :

Any advice or links to truck with 7M conversions would be really helpful. ;)

Thanks in advance.

Mac. :)

hey, i have a 7MGTE in my hilux, if your 7MGE has a manual box behind it you can use it to bolt straight up to the G52 hilux box, If it's autto you will need to find a manual flywheel, clutch and bellhousing.

very easy conversion once you find the parts.

Thanks Killalux. :D

What engine sat in front of the G52 Hilux box. I just wondered if it was a gearbox that was fitted to UK hilux's or would I have to source one from outside the UK?

The Supra is a 5 speed manual, so no worries there. ;)

Can you post some pictures of your install please?
I'll need to do some work to waterproof the engineand loom, but I think it will be worth the effort. I could retrofit a GTE motor at a later date should I find one worth re-building. :)

G52 gearbox is not strong enough.

You need R150 or R151 series.

I intend to use the car for UK Winch Challenges. The cars life will be very hard indeed, so i'm after the strongest box I can afford.
The plan is to use Daihatsu Sprtrak(Feroza) chassis and body. Lengthen the wheelbase slightly. Fit the Simca Portal axles. External rollcage, minimum 37" mud tyres, and fit the Supra motor, basicly because they are cheap and easy to get hold of in the UK. I might try and get a GTE motor and rebuild it with a few mods.
I have been told that a few people have fitted the Lexus Soarer Turbo motor quite easily. Does anyone have any information on what gearbox would work with that engine?
As I havent started building the truck yet, I can still chop and change the spec, so any suggestions are welcome.
;)
