Hi there is the suzuki vitara 16v fuel inj. motor one of those non harm motors? eg if the cambelt goes while driving the motor will just stop instead of like blowing up? my motor has done 135k and im not sure if it has been done

cheers

I have seen it listed as an interference type motor but there are some who have physically checked it and reckon that it is not but remeber that rotating it by hand is not necessarily going to be the same as when the engine is running at high rpm's. If you don't know the condition of the belt then I'd suggest swapping it. I did on mine.

how much would it cost? is it hard to do? cheers CJ

G 16 16v engines are NOT a free running engine so if you break a timing belt well there's a 90% chance that you'll bend the valves when they smash into the pistons

Not hard just tight and time comsuming, make sure to use loctite and a rattle gun to tighten up the main bottom crank bolt as these have a habit of working them selfs loose and damaging the snout of the crankshaft, thus needing the crankshaft removed and replaced (engine out and apart)

ok thanx for that

G16 MOTORS ARE A CLEARANCE HEAD!SUZUKI MOTORS THAT RUN TIMING CHAINS ARE NOT A CLEARANCE HEAD.

YES g16 8v are but G16 16-v are NOT ....DO YOUR REARSEARCH

Dont undo the bottem crank bolt, just undo the ring of small bolts around it, that way the crank pulley bolt cant work loose & damage the crank.
G16B 16v are an interferance motor so change the belt ASAP, itll save you money in the long run.

Then what is the point of the valve reliefs in the pistons ?? on the 16V models ?

for the clearance required during that certain overlap period of the valves meet the pistons, when valve's are at there overlap period there only at half of there lift (travel), when they past the overlap period in the cam one valve starts closing and the other opens futher so thats why the piston's timed to come up when the valve's are overlapping so if the piston came up to TDC either late or early of opmitium cam timing it will eat a valve for breakfast.

It will damage the majorty of the valves (or all of them if running at higher RPM when lets go), damage the valve seats and head sometimes and if your really unlucky you'll punch a hole thru your pistons!!!!!

So now you understand that a timing belt replacement is cheap insurance against severe engine damage ;)
