Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I am thinking of putting extended shackles under the Zook. I could do some home made ones but would like some that look as close to standard as possible. Can I bolt on some shackles from another vehicle? I measured up some from a hilux today, they were 25mm longer and 4mm wider. The length of these woudln't be enough, I know, but would the extra width effect things, or could i just put some spacers in?

Any suggestions? Anyone done this, or does everyone just make their own?

I just made my own out of flat steel bar, approx 1/4" by 1 1/2". then just cut it and drill it to the length you require. If you take your time with it, it will come out quite neat. I don't have any special tools just a drill, 4" grinder and a file. My vise is even just sitting on the floor of the shed. I have done this on the rear of my Sierra and previously on a old pajero, worked fine. Would not recomend this for the front end though, only the rear as you will start to change steering geometry for onroad use.

I have 2" in suzupension and 1" extended shackles and the steerings still good! I just got some flat steel(about 4or5mm) and some square tube and them welded the tube in the middle and then drilled the holes and bolted them in. All for $7

I run 40mm extended shackles, made from c-section (5mm i think). Have checked my caster after the fitting (and spoa with knuckle rotate) and its only just off factory. Still drives fine on the road. Though if you still using standard diffs spua then you caster might be more out. They cost bugger all to make, so try them and if you dont like them take them back off. Keep in mind that they are illegal too.

Thanks for the tips. I am just looking for an easy way to get a little more lift while still looking stock. Surely the cops wouldn't notice another vehicles shackles as opposed to home made ones?

I'm running standard diffs with a 2in spring lift.

My mates home made shackles look stock, made from channel trimmed down. christover

Joey's came up a treat. I don't normally cut the sides down like joey has but his do look very factory.

This is pressed rather than wrought so it has rounded edges. It is readily available from most steel suppliers.

Use 1/2 hight tensile bolts. the factory bolts are 13mm diameter where they pass through the spring bush.

Steve, I'd imagine the lack of welded/fixed centre brace help withs flexin? Dude I bought my zook from through in superior extened shackles, which I've fitted, but have a mega hefty cross brace... maybe just see it on this pic?
