If you have metal fittings that you don't want to undo all the time then washing machine. Just be careful because I've seen some washing machines rub on the rope with the agitator. A bucket is just as good and the benefit of this is you see every bit of the rope so you inspect it as you go along.

Any reason why you can't clean it with a pressure washer?

Pressure washer can force particles into the weave and then make them harder to remove, they then can become abrasive.
I have heard that if you put the rope in an old pillow case (and tie up the end) and then chuck it in the washer it stops tangles and damage.

better to put it in a netted fishing catch bag, and then throw it in the wash.
make sure the missus doesent see you chuck in a rope packed with mud!

I would hose it of with the garden hose first. Then like Jessie said put it in a mesh type bag. And if your lucky your missus will already have one that she uses for her delicates. These would be perfect.

i agree with the pillow case
i wash my climbing and access ropes occasionally and use the following method
put in drawstring bag after daisy chaining
wash on gentle cycle, DO NOT use strong detergent. Get a packet of pure soap flakes
take out of pillow case and hang on line. do not spin dry for same reason as do not pressure wash
do not use front loader. use a fairly empty machine and lo water level so that there is no chance of getting caught in top of machine and melting if you forget the spin cycle.

yep thats the go but put it in a front loader
no middle agitator to get tangled up on
