Whats the best way to get the gear ratio's right for a 1994 sierra running 32" mongrels? (doesn't want to change the std motor).
Should we Lower the diff ratio's or change transfer case (which I think won't change the highway running) I'm advising to change diff ratio's.
Whats interchangeable/ what do different models run?

Thanks in advance

Transfer gears in a zook will change hi range as well as low.

Depending on what he wants it for, prob S3 or S4 transfer gears, or Calmini 5.14, or 6.5 trail tough gears. I have 32' tsl/sx with 5.14 and its pretty good to use.

5.1 diff centres will suit 31-33 inch tyres and far more reliable than transfer gears.

I have not heard of breakages with calmini transfer gears, and i have been told lower ratio diff gears are weaker than higher ratio diff geras. Correct me if i'm wrong.

correct. i went through 3 sets of rear crown wheel and pinions with my old 5.12s. it is because they are trying to put more littler teeth on the same diameter wheel.

personally i'ed go what i did in my zook, S1 rockcrawlrer and 4.8 diff ratios out of vitara automatic front diff's.

the've got a larger pinion than the 5.13's so there stronger !!

NOW... can someone tell me the std diff ratio of a 1994 1.3 litre wide track and also if the centres out of a 1997 coil sierra are a lower ratio and will they bolt up (just the centre). If not what other models diffs will fit.

94 is a WT - 3.7 ratio
coilies and NT are 3.9 ratio.

I believe coiliie centres will go in as a mates got at least one of them in his.

Will changing from 3.7 to 3.9 make much difference?

It's only about 5% but still worth doing if you have the bits, or get them cheaply enough.
Any more reduction will likely be expensive.

I like my 1.0 litre diffs, very cheap to lower the ratios.

You have to get 2 front Vitara diffs, and use the ring and pinion onto the Sierra carrier. If diff welded put it in, if not a mod is needed to stop the cross pins falling out. A ring or weld, but have not done this, so could be all or partly wrong...

They are quite expensive from wreckers and rare, so need to buy from uneducated non zook wreckers if wish to save money.
