Cracked chassis

Gday just wondering if the following cracking near my engine mount is a "common" problem in GQ's.
I removed the steering box to fit a GU one and found it.
A Panhard bracket brace was fitted, but it looks like the panhard bracket has been repaired at some stage too.

Only the inside of the chassis is cracked.
I imagine that it might be possible to remove the engine mount and weld in a plate over the crack, then weld the engine mount back in place.
biggest question though would be if is it going to be strong enough?

Anyone know the going price of a bare chassis from the wreckers?
Also, since my gq is an 88 model, does anyone know if Nissan beefed up this area in later models

ouch!

This is also an occurence on 80 series cruisers, but I don't know how common. There was a post a few months ago in the general tech detailing methods to repair and what appeared to be some fairly good input. Not sure about the legality or engineering required for a repair though.... :?

I love search... this was it...

by not not
Troll00 cracked his Gq chassis couple of years ago up the cape but dont know where it cracked. I think it cracked right through and had a gap of about 5/10mm. He may clarify this if he reads it.
