a mate has an old high mount in his shed and is not sure which model and how old it is and was wondering<
(a) if the old models are any different to the new ones
(b) if the old and new are compatible for parts/motor
(c) if there is a way to tell what model it is externally
(d) if there is reco or seal kits avialable and approx how much
the serial no is hard to read but he thinks it is 247256 if that helps

email warn with the serial number and they can tell you how old it is.

This is a good place to start, just select the serial number, start witht he lower number judging by how old you think it might be:

This is an awesome thread which will help you big time:

I just brought rebuild kits for mine from Mannell's here in Sydney to rebuild the lower housing including the brake etc, give them a call.
One difference with the older highmounts is if you take the motor of it has a key way rather than a spline set up on the shaft out of the motor.

Hope that helps. Beretts

I have an older one and replaced the motor and drive gear with the newer version. It all bolts straight up.

There is little differences, but all of the parts are interchangeable, I have an old one, the serial number on mine starts with a 2 which is not even listed on the warn website ( read real old) all the parts I have ordered fitted the old highmount so I dont think you will have any problems

by the way, these highmounts do not play up unless they are flogged.
mine, I ordered a 6hp motor, the splined pinion (as said old ones are a keyway), bottom seal and bush kit (as per billavista, on pirate) put her back together with new oil, pin the freewheel lever (drill through the housing and the shaft and put a splitpin through it) VOILA - one highmount
