Can anyone help in letting us know the sizes (ie: 6" and 100watt) and where the speakers are in a SWB? Mines in the shop at the moment so can't just have a look and can't seem to find anything on the net.
Planning on putting in a passive sub (bazooka tube) to give a better low down tone.
Cheers for any feedback!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think front speakers are low in the dash, rear are each side of the rear seat - basically at thigh level for whoever is in there.
Cheers,
Scott

I do recall there being x2 in the dash sort of at knee level but I don't know if they are 4" or 5". Are the rear 6"? I haven't pulled the doors apart yet, but are there x2 in the front doors? By memory there are panel holes for what looks like there would be speakers. Could wait till I get truck back, but when you get something on your mind!
Cheers

Ah thats right - identical to mine
Right, speakers are in the lower dash as Scott said and are enny weeny, 4 inch Max. However there is wires in the door wiring loom believe it or not and I just found them by chance and mounted the speakers in the 'fluffy bit' in the door. 6 inch component and they work a treat. The 1 inch component speaker I put on the dash and pluged them into the loom that the original speakers went to (with filter).
Rear ones are about level with the rear seat and on either side about waist height and a rear bugger to get at. basically need to loosen rear seat bolts or take out, take out front seat belts, grab handles for rear passengers and then remove the upper and lower interior trim and try as you might, I bet you can't get it back in where it came out as neatly. was it you that also transfeerred a Rear diff lock & 4.9's? If so you need to take the same panel off thet you took off to mount the compressor and ECU.
Behind this trim is (guessing here) a 6 x 9 single cone speaker. Mine had already been replaced before I got it, but the hole is oval and the 1999 LWB one I wrecked had these. I now have 6 inch rounds in the same location.

Thanks for that, there are cheap 3-way Sony's on Trademe so they will go in the back. Just got to find some 4.5" for the front and possibly some tweeters. We don't like loud thump thump, just enough to enjoy Korn
and a bit of Evermore.

NJV6, nice one. I will get some 6"s in the front and the back and will use the wiring in the doors. Will also use the original wiring that you have for the tweeters. Looking forward to some nice sound now. Cheers all for your help

yeh the postions are correct, but id forget about all the effort that NJV6 went to and simply use the coat hanger treatment for fitting the wires through to the back, took me five minutes to replace the rears, undid the kick panels in the front and fed the wires thorugh with coathanger through to the back, no need to undo everything....
dunno just the way i did it

Dean, have you got speakers in the rear and in the pillar behind the front seats? x6 speakers all-together? If so, are you using an amp and where did you mount it? Cheers

nah overkill iv got speakers in the rear near the drink holders for the back seats, and in the front dash at about knee level when sitting in the dirvers position.
just running a pioneer mp3 head unit into the 4.5" in the front and just 6" in the rear, full pioneer system and sounds the goods, $300 worth all up, get good discounts though cos i bought a few grands worth for my old car, dont really want a bull5hit system in the fourby, gets covered in crap anyways, it sounds good though. iv always mounted my amps in the past under seats and in boots. as theres no boot in the paj id be tempted to mount it under the seat, all except for water ingress......how deep do you go??? could mount it on the back of the seat....
or in a quater panel in the rear....

i dont have a picture of just the speakers, but in this pic you can see my rearsjust near the drink holders, and then the fronts just mounted in the dash, simple effective setup, and sounds very decent too, i rekon pioneer gear is good stuff. you can spend the world, but i didnt want to on the paj, just something i could listen to

I wasn't really wanting to go so far as to get into AMPs but still want a nice sound allround, will do what NJV6 has done and put 6" in the front doors and put a set of 6" in the rear. Got a little 8" passive sub for the low down noise that has it's own built in amp which will sit nicely in the back, behind and centre of the front seats (back seats are coming out, NO Kids YET) Should sound nice. You can get a good setup without paying through your teeth, as you said $300. I got the sub for $65 (remember that it has it's own amp) $100 for x4 6" 3-way Sony's (brand new) and $50 for 200watt Pioneer tweeters (brand new). An adiction to Trademe and wanting a good deal can find you saving money
or blowing lots as my partner says. The speakers should arrive either by the weekend or early next week. Once in I'll let you know how it sounds and how easy the installation of the rears where for us!

i've got 6x9's seperate boxes in the rear, used small pipe brackets to fit them to the tie down points. still have plenty of room for stuff around them. to power them i'v installed a 200w amp in the small parcel tray below the passenger seat, its off the froor and moves with the seat when someone needs to get into the back. Head unit, amp and 6x9's all kenwood. perfect for krankin koRn at the approiate level, or just drowning out the extractors and sports exhaust.

sounds good overkill,
let us all know how you go, and thats what i thoguht of doing, taking the 4.5" outta the dash and putting 6" in the drivers doors, but didnt see any advantage, a good set of 4.5" did the trick with much less mucking around
ahhah i dont even live in NZ and i watch trademe all the time, but ebays my killer, its all good though, you never actually see the money swap hands so it doesnt count,
have fun,

Been working on the truck after work last couple of nights, nothing on T.V. When I pulled the door trims off I found I had 5" speakers installed by the factory. Put 6" 4-way Sonys in their place, sounds good. Got some 6x9's on the way for the rear and have put some tweeters in the front doors with crossovers. Have pulled out the 4" ones from the dash, may replace them but need to find out how they are wired first. The door and dash are working off a common circuit but I can not find where they are joined. If anyone has a wiring diagram, manual or knows, your help would be much appreciated.

when i get back from OS ill be trying it in a comp

You are right evanstaniland, you can get a good sound with a cheap setup. I'm looking for all the cheap stuff off Trademe. Have only spent about $200 replacing all speakers and putting in a passive sub.
Good luck for comps if you go in
