I definately wouldn't recommend full hydro on a rig that sees any road duties.

They suck

Hydro assist might be a better option ?

only road duties it may see is a k that is about it it will be pretty much strictly off road

I would only go hydro assist if I were you in case you start to compete. Full hydro will throw you straight into outlaw

well the comps i want to enter will be tuff truck and the like
hydro assist that just involve tapping the steering box?
again i assume i will need a extra resevoir?

you wont need a big resivoir if you use a double ended ram for full hydro Don't know if you can use one in hydro assist but I can't see why not. If your serious about it give damo aka yuri a call and he will help you out with some good stuff.

have a look at yuri4x4.com

the bigger the cyl the slower your steering will be. Alot of full hydro set up use 2" rams so im guessing 1.5" would be pleanty.

Yes I done the hydro steer on Phills black nissan. Before I rebuilt his truck I put a ram assist on it which he ran at last years nissan trials it worked a lot better than the standard set up but the standard nissan pump was not good enought even though I put a smaller pully on it to speed the pump up and drilled out the priority valve 1/2 mm the sterring as still shit at idle.
If you go hyd assist put a modified saganal pump on it of a falcon as they are cheep to buy and you can get good flow and pressure out of them around 1200 -1300 psi.
Phills nissan was running the standard nissan pump at tuff truck and we had some problems with it running the full hydro so we just changed the pump to a Vickers pump of a Internatinal truck as you can get up to 2000 psi and 6 gallons a min out of these things but they are not cheap.
This is the same pump that Pete uses on his Crusier and they work exellent on the bigger trucks.

I have done lots of GQ assists and on all of them we use Saganaw pumps.
Chev, Ford ect ect can all pump around 1300psi so are good. We also use the same pump on all our full hydros that have 2.25 turns lock to lock and still no probs. With only 2.25 turns lock to lock you need alot of flow. ;)

Or just turn the wheel slower which is what i have to do with my full hydro 3 turns lock to lock and a Saganaw pump
