Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I'm thinking at this early stage(ie the auto isn't even in yet...)of my gearing change requirements, and with th 1:1 4th gear and no lock up clutch in the Allison, then I'll have to go to at least 34" tyres. I have found Simex do an extreme trecker2 in a 10.5 X 35 X 16. has anyone driven these on the bitumen and are they as noisy as they look, and willl they last longer than 20K with road trips and some offroad. I prefer a narrow tall tyre to a 12.5 X 35 as I dont want to have to put bigger flares etc on it. I already have small flares that used to hide 11.5X32 mudders perfectly.

Any experience with these tyres would be helpful.

I have these in a 35 x 11.5 x 15 but can't here them that much on road due to my engine, may'be look at the jungle trecker, not as harsh a tread

the ET's sound like a Cessnais hovering above your roof

I think this would suit your needs better, 34x9x16

There's some Silverstones in the tyre section that might float your boat.

IMO the ET is quieter and handles better than the JT 2 on the road.
Remember though that when you wear these down you are about 15 mm closer to the road from new.

i have heard the silverstones are a bitch in the wet (on tar) regardless of PSI, and that was on an 80 series. Have you thought of 900X16 michelins? or are you too scared.....

YUP, TOO scared.

I'll probably go for a 12.5/35/15 on 15x8 rims, and since I have a burnt out 97 defender at hand, I'll fit up the diffs (Including the Sals which has Maxi axles) to the RR. I know what i said about sals diffs in RR's, but the ground clearance should be ok with 35's. At least the axles etc will take it.

I need a good road tyre aswell, that has to last a decent time, hence an MTR or similar 'soft offroad' tyre. I'll have to get a second set of rims for the ET2's.....for play.
