A mate is looking to buy a 93 LWB Mav it has over 300000k's on it but it has a knock in the gearbox (or thats what I suspect) at idle. It goes away if you push in the clutch or rev the motor. Is this problem serious or not?
Oh yeah its a 4.2 Diesel as well.
Cheers Kramer.

possible the clutch, they get a rattly type noise when the springs in the friction disc get loose.

Hmm definately not rattly at all more like a knock like you would get when you do a big end.

i know what you mean, my shortys got 300k on it and it has the same knock at idle. Got it serviced the other day and asked about it, the guy said it's because somethings not in gear so it spins or something... He said it's not a bad thing anyway. If its the same thing we're talkin bout here

Had a 60 series that did it in neutral when hot. Was told it was not a problem. My 4.2TD GU does similar.
