howdy fellas, i have recently bought another drover ('86) tin top and i mainly got it for the body as it literally had rust only on the passenger door. it is in original condition and the tacho says 130,000ks! engine is farked
so here is the deal. i am going to swap all my interior inlc. seats, stereo, panels, rubber carpet. windows. wheels. engine. bullbar etc into the new beast.
before i do all that, what do you guys reckon i should do to the 'new' one before i slap everything into it? eg. have you found that it is easier to do something to the dash with both seats out? any little mods that would be handy to do now as it currently has hardly anything in it. ill put a link up soon for pics
oh and bought the little POS for 550

. still got rego to! heh
cheers guys,
Sami

Damn where do you find those things. thats what i was after before i bought the WT tintop.
Look at doing any aftermarket wiring, stereo, cbs rear light, etc before interior goes in.

hey nic long time no talk.. will call ya soon for a catch up
yeh going to lob the stereo in first then interior
rear light.. forgot about that.. nice thanks!
was thinking of spraying some sound deadener crap in it too and let it set for a week or so.. ? what you reckon?

Yeh no worries. me go to europe in 2.5 weeks.
Also thought of alarm/ immob? any rear power outlets. etc.
Sound deadner, up 2 you. more weight but less noise can be a good thing for a dd.

Clean out any crap from the fan/air box.
Chop it into a cab/chassis LWB.

haha no Zute..

i bought the body for that reason.. it had a good one!
but i like your idea about getting to the fan/heaters and cleaning it all out. ill go through me manual on how to put it back together once i have had too many beers and cant remember how it all fits
cheers guys, and keep the ideas rolling...!

oh and Nic yeh will be running 12v to rear panels for my fridge. thanks for reminder.
i have a central locking kit for the beast as well so while the door trim is off i may as well lob that in.. found a good link for that stuff and other DIY projects (
http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/lof ... /f174.html )
am thinking of doing the red LEDs in the dash..looks sweet.
also sound deadening doors may be the go as well.. time consuming though.. one guy had a good thought on some site, about taping up the door internals.. like the wires going from the inner door handle as the tend to rattle.. i know mine do.
cheers again

had a look at the heaters/fan and i turned them on and nothing happened.. played with switches back and forth from recirculate to fresh and a clump of something fell down and the fans started working.. haha
then i heard leaves blowing round and get stuck and the fan stopped again.. it works intermittently now.. how would i go about cleaning out the fan and motor etc? is it a right b1tch to do?

easy as, ive recently stripped my zook back to shell and chassis after rolling, so i thought it would be a good time to clean the heater out

...
i think two bolts hold it in under the dash, and then just remove the heater hoses from in the engine bay.
lots of little clips hold it together and its easy to pull apart and get it back the right way.
good luck!
you bugger, i wanted that zook!!

If my memorys right isn't there a bolt that goes through the firewall, with a nut on the engine bay side that also holds the heater unit in.

i guess i will find out soon eh barathrum?

ill check the field manual as well before i pull it out.
spike you in perth are ya? had my eye on the zook for ages but the guy kept trying to get more cash than i was offering. had 1000 on it and still in rego.. i offered 550 and he said he was waiting for someone else that didnt have the cash yet.. so i waited two weeks

then i got it!
ill let you know how it goes though. will be respraying it and doing a fair bit of work to the beast. pics up tonight.

Yep Done.
Held up in mine so far, everything else is breaking around it thou.
CAT. NO. HB5924 from jaycar i think or similar. can measure mine if needed.
I have done a steel front plate and then carried it through for the top mount and that then screws up to the original screws. I have put the bottom of the case on after the stereo and housing has been mounted.

If your going to give it a respray of paint do that before you put the engine etc in. might make it a bit easier.

haha 10in is way more than enough man!

no complaints so far
i have a 10in JBL cost 75 bucks (mates rates) and installed into a professionally made sub box to suit the driver itself.
my bro and i went for a drive and i had it set to 3/4 of the way up and stereo on half and my roof was 'popping'! scarey shiz

when bass kicked in my windows rattled and you could feel the roof flexing and snapping back

Stereo install into stock radio casing
Standard radio enclosure
Enclosure without faceplate
Traced faceplate onto some 3mm ply but decided to just use the plastic.. looks better and just have to cut it a bit to fit the stereo
this is the piece needing to be cut out of the facelplate.. just followed the line that was already there.. make sure you cut from behind in case you get a bit wonky with the stanley knife!
Stereo mounted into enclosure with new cig lighter and some ply on the inside to keep the stereo level once installed. (will change this in the future)
let me know what you reckon so far.. will install it this weekend and take piccies of that as well if you guys want?

ok new update
doing the engine swap over this friday night and will be doing the interior on saturday. so i decided to neaten up the rear interior a bit before putting the panels in and also the rubber floor covering. instead of repainting the standard colour i chose to use some spray on sound deadener in the rear panels, floor and wheel arches. trying my best to keep noise out.
i sprayed it with cans of Sound deadener from Auto Pro.. 11.95 a can.. found them yesterday at Bunnings for 8.95 :(.
once the panels are ready to go in (door and rear panels) i will also spray the inner facing side with sound deadener spray or lay some dynamat bitumen matting.. here is how it looks. before and after
before
after
floor sprayed

once completed it will ahve the black rubber matting (6mm) and have carpet with studs over the wheel arches so that they clip on and off for cleaning.
what do ya reckon?
