Has anyone had/ got Cooper A/T's- what are they like on and off road?

I've heard they can be a bit skatey on wet bitumen(?) Are they good on gravel tracks?

Not cooper but i just fitted a set of Pro Comp A/T 35" to my Patrol & they leave the BFG's I removed for dead. Also have big warrenty. They ride better & quieter. Go see Hobbsy at Pro Comps east melbourne if thats your neck of the woods. Cheers.

I'm a huge Cooper fan, I have had the AT's and they were fantasic for me, granted my 4x4 is alot lighter than a few of the other out there.

Procomps are also a great tyre, all depends on who can give yo the best deal I suppose.

Thanks for the feedback. I would be looking at other tyres, but there isn't much around that will legally fit a Feroza. :cry:

The Coopers come in 235/70R15- which is a bit bigger than standard but still legal. They are the only manufacturer who bring this size into the country from what I've found over the last two weeks.

Procomp don't make anything that small- otherwise I would have been seriously looking at their A/T too. My only other choices were Toyo OPAT, Yokohama Geolander G011 A/T +II- and they were both in the standard 225/70R15!

Anyway, I've ordered the Coopers with new 15x7 rims (in a better offset)and will be picking them up next Thursday.

Oh yeah, a big thumbs up for Coopers for bringing in some of the smaller odd sizes for compact 4WD's. :smilecolros:

I got the A/T's on my zook and they are great, heaps of grip on dry stuff and on the road but......... they SUCK in the mud :cry:

they r fine for me on wet bitumen.

Yes, do a search on 4WD Monthly forums for Cooper and you'll hear some good stories. Apparently the ST's have a few problems with chipping in the rough stuff. And we're talking whole tread blocks lifting off exposing the steel belt! :shock:

A few people had problems with the warranty after that had happened.

The warranty is only given at the city dealers and you have to get them rebalanced every 10000km or something like that, from what I've read.

There's only a 50000km warranty on the ones I'm getting- it's not worth the expense of having them rebalanced every 10000km IMHO. Most likely you need to get the wheel alignment done too? $$$$

If hobbsy didn't come good with the warrenty I would grab him by the gonads & say who's your DADDY BITCH. Pro Comp being relativly new to oz would probly look after us I guess they don't need negative publicity nor do cooper. I thought the warrenty only applied to milage/tread depth.
Be careful with the new offset cos if you are worried about legal sizes you should also not go over the recomended offset. On the other hand its gotta look beasty dude. :cool:

Yep, I asked for the offset to still be legal (I think 26mm greater track is OK here in SA). I'm going in to check the rims clear OK on the front tomorrow, but the tyres won't be here until Thursday......

Here's the Coopers Warranty blurb from their website (basically they have to be balanced, rotated and aligned every 10000km at a Cooper dealer!!!):

The Mileage Warranty is only applicable at participating authorised Cooper agents in capital cities within Australia.
Ask the tyre dealer if they participate in this programme. Most capital city stores do. All country stores do not.

How to maintain the warranty
Every 10,000 kms you need to return to any authorised Cooper dealer to have your tyres balanced aligned and rotated. Participating dealers will endorse the Warranty Card. Every dealer has the right to refuse endorsing your warranty card if a fault is present in your vehicle that is causing erratic or rapid tyre wear.

What it will cost you
Check the Warranty Card as it has a special low price for Cooper customers.

How to Claim on any Shortfall
As long as an authorised Cooper dealer has endorsed your warranty card every 10,000 kms and the original warranty card and invoices for the regular services are forwarded to your Cooper state distributor. The Cooper state distributor will then organize through an authorised Cooper dealer to credit you with any shortfall you may be eligible for based on the warranty conditions off your next purchase.

Who isn’t Eligible for the Warranty?

Taxi or Hire vehicles
A participating dealer has the right to refuse or vary the warranty period based on their discretion, or because of the particular use of the vehicle.
The mileage warranty is only applicable to Capital City purchases. When used in the same conditions, Cooper Tires will usually outlast most competitor brands, however, some areas in Australia will cause rapid wear beyond normal use with any brand, that is why the mileage warranty is restricted to Capital Cities.
MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY

What is covered and for how long?
Passenger and 4WD tyres – Cooper warrants to the original purchaser that if a Cooper tyre becomes unserviceable in private vehicle use as a result of a defect in workmanship and material during the tread life (defined below).

Tread Life
When the tread becomes worn down to 1.6mm (Shown by tread wear indicators moulded into the tread grooves) the tyre is worn out and this warranty ends.

Replacement Charge
The replacement charge will be determined by multiplying the consumer’s original purchase price by the percentage of original tread depth worn from the tyre. The consumer must pay for mounting, balancing and any other additional charges, or the acceptance by the consumer of a higher priced replacement tyre.

What is not covered?
This warranty does not cover tyres that become unserviceable due to:

Conditions resulting from road hazards, such as cut, snags or punctures.
Conditions resulting from improper installation, wheel misalignment, or tyre/wheel assembly imbalance.
Conditions resulting from consumer damage, such as improper tyre and vehicle maintenance, misuse, abuse, accident.
Passenger car tyres used in any commercial application.
Ride complaints after the first 1mm tread wear.
Ozone or weather cracking on tyres over four (4) years from date of purchase

Just an update on the warranty- picked my tyres up yesterday and you actually get a written guarrantee that states the maximum price you will be charged at any Cooper dealer for the 10000km alignment, balance, rotation and suspension check.

In my case the figure is $44- not too bad at all for having all that work done. So it looks like I will be keeping my warranty valid afterall!
