I was just wondering if anyone out there has had anything to with vehicles fitted with Fred's Coil Conversions. In particular I am interested in live axle hilux's.
I looked at one the other day fitted with a kit and it looked / rode well.
Any feed back would be great.

They leave the two large leave with teh eye's in them. These are used to keep the axle in place. The coils take over the suspenion duties.
I hear what you are saying about the useless nature, but I can't help thing there advantages to riding on coils rather than leaves.
Not sure though and that is why I am asking the question.
Maybe a better question would be to ask what the best suspenion setup would be for a daily driven 90 model d/c hilux which still has stock suspension and is looking for a legal upgrade.
I am more thna happy to modify the crapper out of stuff as long as it has been plated before and I know it will work. I have enough inovation getting my V6 Manx with full custom suspenion past the damn DOT without starting another major project.

Yeah i thought they were fairly expensive. Not that i dont think its money well spent if you want that set up.
I beleive it also increases your legal payload with the freds kit?
The chassie also had Koni shocks last time i was there.

Ruff spot on the money ,can up the payload another 100/300 kg depending on setup .

there is a lot out in the west who add the coils for more load capasity .

Defiitely increases the payload i believe 300kg is quoted. obvisouly with stiffer springs.
For brad it seems he is after ride. I would maybe go and have a look at the chassis at salisbury anmd suss it out!

there was a dualcab mid 90's lux at the auctions early this week with the conversion, after market turbo, hot water shower, spotties, winch bar and 33's. had been rolled over but went for 2400. depending what you wanted to do with it it would have been a good buy.

Coil Chassis

Went and had a look at the Chassis today.
It has two front koni's on it, both need rebuiling, rear shocks are stock Toyota. All 4 coils are there with perches and the likes. All shackles are stock, bushes look rubber.
Judging by the plate the conversion is about 8 years old.
Their bottom dollar was $1000.
I figure it would cost me at least another $500 - $600 to get it on and working. So I could potentially save about $800 on a drive in drive out price.
Some how I don't think the chassis will be going anywhere soon so I will have a think about it.
Anyone get good prices on Koni's for me ?
