Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,
The sierra ute i just got has a wire cable running from the seat-belt mount on each side, out through a hole in the back of the cab and connected to a bracket on the tray of the ute.

Are they just to strengthen the seat-belt mounts in the case of an accident, and therefore necessary? I ask because one is busted (the tray it did have on there was bent, and it snapped the cable.)

Do i need to have them, or can i throw them?

They are important.
As you say, they strengthen the seat belt mount, but also they strengthen the body... usually on soft tops they are a steel rod, the cable must be for soft top bodies converted to utes or trays, as some were.

It is actually a resin top trayback ute, something i had not seen before very often.
