Best Suspension setup for a 1990 D/C Hilux daily driver

I am after some options on what you guys think would be the best suspension setup for my 1990 D/C hilux. It is a daily driver and whatever I do needs to be legal. I am happy to get some thing plated if need be to get a good ride.

The vehicle will have a 40mm body lift, 33" tyres on 8" rims and about a 50 - 75 mm suspenion lift of some sort.

Now what should I do ?

I have read about fronts to rears, dropping front hangers and Mazda's on rear etc, has anyone ever got this approved ?

Also looked at Coils over lightened leaf packs like what Fred's Conversions do.

ANyway I am after any other ideas or options that I may not have yet looked at.

This is not a rock buggy and is used in what I would call mild offroad. Spends most of its time driving to work and back. So it needs to have good road manners.

Ideas ???

just get a three inch lift and keep your standard tyres for on road and get some kick arse 33`s for offroad.

2 inch body lift and 2 inch spring lift. ARB, King spring etc will clear the 33's fine. You will not clear 33's with a spring lift alone. Last Hilux was a ln106 with a 2 inch body lift and 3 inch spring lift, cleared the 33's ok.

My 3" spring lift and no body lift clears 35" and will soon clear 37"

I don't think that this is what Brad is after however. He has other toys to play with and this is his daily driver.

Keep it simple and strong, you prolly won't get the full benefit of rears in front or IFS packs in the rear. A mate of mine recently bought some TJM spring packs - he was very happy with the ride quality, flex and height. This was on a 4 runner chassis, extra cab hilux cab. PM him - crawlereng is his username.

I am bending towards a similiar setup to what Freds conversions do with coils ATM. I now have several pictures and enough measurements to copy them pretty easy. Just have to decide if I can be bothered or if I will just go with some 3" springs like evryone is suggesting. It is just that they ride so damn hard.

Has anyone been in a Freds Converted Hilux ?

35's

please masta tell this young grass hoppa how, I want to learn.

I've got 3" bodylift and 2" springs... 33's are clearing the guards fine but I have my doubts as to sneaking 35" under it... did you cut the guards or move the front axel forwards or something?

mmm

Looks like I can get a very good deal on a complete 75mm EFS soft ride kit. Has anyone ever used or had anything to do with these ?

They are made by Carrol's springs

Have't had any experience with the "softride" kit but I've dealt with Carrolls numerous times and I'm very happy with their prices, product and service.

Front guards are cut, axle is moved forward and rear is trayback. Although in the rear I need to hack out the floor to let the tyres go up higher.

I'm not sure how easily the 37" will fit but it will be interesting.

Well

After much research and many hours of talking to people and driving in different vehicles I have chosen to use the new EFS stuff from Carrol Springs. I picked up my kit today, 4 springs, 4 shocks, bushes, adjustable torque bar, greasable shackles, longer brake lines and EFS stickers :)

Will fit in up on Saturday and see if it was worth it.
