I think my ps pump is rooted
is their some way to test pressure?
I've heard of ppl putting GU ps pumps on GQ. do they need any modding or bolt straight on to existing gq brackets?
I've also heard of skyline and pulsar pumps. are these adequate for gq with 35's plus? what year/model skylines or pulsars?
any good ideas for using knackered ps pump if i replace it, eg. water pump for camp shower, hydraulic winch, etc,etc

The bearing in mine seased up, the fan-belt started smoking quite a lot when it didn't turn almost started fire. I bought a replacement from teh wreckers and didn't bother bugerising around. But looking at workshop manuals I am sure you could rebuild one yourself without too many dramas..
I have heard of GU boxes replacing the smaller GQ box, but haven't heard of ps pump being retrofitted.
I like the sound of some of your ideas... water pump ??? rear hyrdalic winch perhaps...mmm..

Not sure about measuring pressure. You might have to put a T Piece in the high pressure output and install a Hydraulic pressure gauge... By eye, Skyline PS pumps look exactly the same, but with the resevoir remote mounted instead of being integral.

I think pump may not be too bad.
I also had GQ shimmy problem. looked like swivel hub bearings. Pulled it all apart and replaced with full bearing and seal kit. Did wheel bearings too. Swivel hub bearings were rooted and rhs inner wheel bearing.
car now drives better than a nissan was ever meant to, and power steering is heaps better too, not 100% though.
Now the alternator is f**ked
In the past coupla weeks i've fixed blown head gasket, re-cored radiator, replaced viscous coupling on fan, swivel hub bearing kit, both wheel bearings kit, and now my alternator is f**ked. Gotta luv 4by's

i run a GU power steering pump on my GQ, all bolt in, only difference is the lines running to the box but thats no problem to mount at all, only slightly different.

whats the difference in p/s pump (GQ-U)
i have a GU box on mine GQ, sometimes it feels like the steering is slow, but no real problems.

the only difference i noticed is that the puller is smaller on the GU pump so you need to buy a standard GU power steering belt from somewhere.
the look the same although the lines run a little different but works the same, no hassles at all for me.
just need to get the GU box on now, its been sitting in the shed for too long
