Time I've heard of this is when people have adjustable control arms and they are adjusted incorrectly.

I was talking to a mate today and he also told me that he kept braking rear shocks (tough dogs) because his "A" frame was 1/2 inch too long and it was bending the shock at full length. I didn't realise until today just how little you have to change geometry to cause problems like this. Kinda makes you appreciate why caster on the front diff is so important.

I extended my top control arms to get a better pinion angle and and i did it 5mm too much, it hit the spring and bump stop bracket down bottom on full artculation. I made new ones now and it is much better, dinted the shock though

Do u have to extend upper and lower or only upper?

If you extend the uppers you need to extend the lower arms unless you change the shock/spring mounts to match.

are the shocks spaced out on the diff???

No the shocks aren't spaced out. What is required to do this?

You get a thick washer with some long travel shocks. Otherwise you can just use a couple of washers to pack out the shocks (put the washers on the mount before the shock)

interesting i had this problem with the original drum brake rear end on mine. I fixed by spacing out the shock and cutting away some of the bump stop plate.
But now i have a disc rear straight swap and i didn't need to space or cut and it now doesn't look like hitting.

i had the same problem with my tough dogs on the rear they were spaced out as far as they could be but still squashed both rock covers and had marks all over them from spring slap i have 36in pro comps now and they dont touch much i just think the big bores are to big there good for out back travel but there is no need for them on hardcore work

had the same problem with my swb with efs shocks. just spaced them out a bit and replaced upper rock cover with rubber boots. no worries since

easiest fix is dont lift them,(
barahahahahaha YEAH RIGHT)
Cut the bump stops back and reposition the lower shockie mounts, or fab some new ones,

easy done

It's real easy to cut and shut your lower shock mounts. I did it with mine and I had no experience. If you have a look at them from behind, you'll see that there is a square plate that the rod comes out of. Cut the mounts at the top of that plate make the cut parallel with the ground. Now turn the cut off bit upside down and swap it with the cut off bit from the other side. Now weld it on the front of the part of the mount that is left rather hang it underneath again. This lifts the mount up out of the way of rocks and also places the shock out a little bit more so you don't have to cut anything. You should be able to weld it straigh on without too much grinding and bashing
