Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all

I think it is time to replace the clutch in my 86 Rangie. It is starting to make some strange noises as though the throwout bearing has shit itself. The car has travelled nearly 300,000kms and to my know it may still be the original clutch. I think I am driving on rivets!!

Anyway...I plan to tackle this at my place on the cold concrete without removing the engine...any tricks that I need to look out for?

Also, what should I expect to pay for a clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and a new fork?

top 2 bolts on bell housing a right PIA to do.

itss almost easier to pull engine.

I did it twice in a 3 month period.
Hire an engine crane, remove the centre console and open up your passenger door.
Drop it down through the hole in the tunnel.

I found the quickest way to get the top bellhousing bolts out is to use the longest extension bar you can find, ie 1m.
Sure it may cost you a little bit, but it'll save you so much time and effort.
And cheaper than the labour you will pay for someone else to do it.

Body lifts make it easier. On 35"s and on ramps makes it even easier.

I have a 2 inch body lift, 3 inch spring lift and 33"...but it still looks like a stinker of a job..

I have got a quote for around $1200 which includes replacement of the main seal at the back of the block...

I think I might just bit the bullet.
