Installed my ratios (4.6)tonight, minus the front due to a slightly damaged airlocker line. Dam!!
The old 4.2 fired up
If your thinking of doing it, just do it. can't wait to get the drive shafts sorted so I can go play.
Anyone interested in buying a good looking set of 4.1's??? Top condition.

the standard rule of thumb!
Original diff gears New Tyre size New gear Size
3.9 35 4.3
4.1 35 4.6
4.3 35 4.8
3.9 33 4.1
4.1 33 4.3
4.3 33 4.6
For each inch above standard you go one gear size up, so patrol with 4.1 with 35 you would go 4.6.
4.6 are perfect for 36 if you had 4.1 to start with.

Not the odd one out, there others, my choice was 4.6s to match speedo and to regain standard power which I have done both.....With thanks to the imput of everybody on here.....
And to those that said go the turbo....it's not over yet

i'm buying a set of 4.65 ratios for mine with 35's on it..... up from the standard 3.9 Should make a big difference to acceleration
Leaves the option open to fit 37" tyres in the near future

Best advice I would have to offer is stick to genuine nissan 4.6 ratios and not aftermarket 4.8 ratios

reading the list that GUEEY put up, mine only needs 4.3 ratios..... i know 4.65 will make it accelerate a little better, and rev a bit harder on the highway.... anybody got any idea what an auto would sit on at 100k with 4.65? with the 3.9's i sit on 2,300rpm at 100 without the torquer converter locked up... 1,800 with it locked up.

An auto which I think 3.9 is standard will run 10klm an hour under speed shown with 35's.....Results from High75 He runs a TI Auto td42 with 4.6 and 35's.

How would i go with 4.6's running 33's on road and 35's offroad?
Mine's currently 4.1 and needs 4.625 when running 35" pedes, but i can't afford a set of 35" roadies aswell

i went from 3.9s to 4.6s and it made a massive difference and well worth it, great for running the bigger tyres, but on the road with 33s, no need for first gear

can i ask why you need 4.6's? is it just for around town driving?
i have 35's on mine and find that it doesn't lack power or speed, but offroad i need to do transfer gears, which i reckon would be a better mod.
at 100kph the tacho reads 2000rpm and put your foot down at 2000 and the boost goes to 8 and climbs to 12. if i had 4.6's the tacho might read 2200 at 100kph, meaning more fuel.
maybe i'm missing something but i thought with biggers tires you were better off with transfer gears....

by not not
I took the 4.6s out of mine a fair while after fitting the 4.2td As i was doing alot of highway driving and was sick of it reving its arrs off at 100klms an hour 2650rpm with 33s but now with towing everywhere ive gone back to standed lift 265s with 4.1s and she towed well,

the auto in mine at the moment with 3.9 gears sits on about 2,300rpm at 100kph..... but it's a load on the motor....with the torque converter locked up, it sits on 1,800rpm but accelerates like crap..... off-road it's ok with the auto... 4.33 would probably be ok......... shit... now you guys have me thinking twice about 4.65
I'm planning on putting a turbo on the V8.... 4.3 would be perfect then..... hrrmmmmm decisions

Your less likely to need higher gear ratios with a more powerful motor.
I bought a set of 4.6's off a guy who put a v8 in gq (which originaly had a 2.8 td). He went down to 3.9's.
My suggestion is to set your motor up and then see what ratio you need

Auto with 4.3's is excellent. but mine had 4.1s as OEM - weird but true.

anyone want 4.625 ratio gears, genuine nissan, they come with the gu diff housings, front and rear, complete disc to disc already strapped to a pallet, out of a 2.8 litre gu patrol
only $2500, bargain seeing how much the 4.6 gears are worth to buy alone.

I just want some 2nd hand 4.625's. Just fitted the turbo
so funds are a bit low at the moment
